I'm also pretty OCD, so it definitely bothers me, especially because this is a brand new reel. I was starting to get concerned that it might have a defective worm gear or paw. I own two other Shimano reels and never had this issue before.

Thanks I noticed that, but wasn't sure how to remedy it. Do you want the spool tension completely backed off when you spool the reel? I have room to walk it out, should I tighten or loosen the spool tension?

My Reel What do you folks think? Is my spool over or under filled? Or is it just right? I always hear people saying there should be an 1/8th of an inch gap between the line and top of the spool, but are they talking about the actual top of the spool, or that edge just below the top? I usually can tell when my reel is over-spooled because it will just bird's nest when I look at it. But I have no experience with the symptoms of an under spooled reel.

Would you have a recommendation on a good 6'6" MHF rod that can throw 1/4 to 1oz lures? I got this rod just because those specs seem real appealing for an all purpose single setup that I can take anywhere.

Second day out with this new rod. I set the hook on a fish and my reel goes flying off the rod. I look down and see the reel seat snapped. I hold the reel down with one hand and reel the fish in with my other. Not a happy angler. Anyone have experience with Abu's warranty service? Pics here http://imgur.com/gallery/PS2q5mN

Mine is the 7.4:1. I think what likely happened is that they are now using the same cast control on the dc models that is on the new 2020 metanium. Since it is the same part it makes sense that they would want to save on production cost and keep them the same color.

Okay, thank you. It sounds like I don't have to worry about it being a fake. I was just a little surprised when I opened the box and the fact that it doesn't match up with pictures on shimano's website.

Does anyone know if/when shimano changed the color of the spool tension knob on the metanium dc? I just got one from tackle direct and the cast control knot is just a gunmetal color. All the photos I see show it having a gold color including the images on shimano's website? I'm just wondering if I ended up getting an older model or even a fake.
