For The Budget Guy?
I have thrown jerkbaits and walking baits on a MH/F BC, a M/F spinning rod, and an old Pinnacle BC rod that says MH but feels like a M, and its very noodly. I assume its a moderate action. Out of those three, the M/F spinning rod imparts the best action for me. Although its awkward for me to twitch and reel simultaneously with a spinning rod. The worst lure action was on the more moderate rod. I felt like I had to beat the water to death to get the lures to properly work. Could just be my personal experience or the fact that I suck at jerkbaiting, but I truly hated the experience. For me the faster the tip the better the action. I assumed my best bet would be a M/XF BC with some mono to absorb some of the impact. Or at least a M/F BC.

For The Budget Guy?
I hear great things about BG and Yozuri hybrid. They are both affordable so I will probably try them both out. Very little vegetation in my fisheries so I will go with 15lb. Thanks guys.

For The Budget Guy?
What line would be best for versatility for all three lures? Straight braid perhaps?

For The Budget Guy?
Would you throw all three baits (spinner, chatter, buzz) on lets say, 10-12lb Yo-Zuri Hybrid?

For The Budget Guy?
I pretty much do everything on my 2 rods right now except for crankbaits, jerkbaits, and frogs. So for me its more of "broadening my techniques" and I want better gear. My 2 rods are extremely low budget. They work amazing because I catch fish with them, but I have nothing to compare them to lol. I want a more responsive and sensitive rod for my jigs. I need a shorter rod with a faster tip to learn the jerkbait. What I have now will not work a jerkbait.

For The Budget Guy?
I have a finesse spinning rod and a MH/F workhorse baitcaster right now that I am throwing everything on. I just use a snap to quickly change baits right now but my plan is to get more rods so thats not an issue lol. My next rod is a dedicated jig rod because that my confidence lure. After that I will get a Jerkbait/topwater rod. Then a spinnerbait/chatterbait/buzzbait rod. Then onto a cranking rod. But this process will be years in the making. I like to have a plan and no regrets.

For The Budget Guy?
First off, shout out to @JSchwartzy for his easy to understand "Bass Tackle Setup Selection Guide" So theoretically, I could use a MH/F for spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and chatterbaits. And a M/XF for jerkbaits and topwater walking baits. This could potentially save me a lot of money. I know a lot of anglers would prefer to have a seperate rod for each individual technique, but for the budget guy (like myself) combining these techniques is more ideal. On paper it appears I can pull this off but I am not sure due to lack of experience and gear. I do plan on purchasing a jerkbait rod that I would like to also throw some topwater trebles on. And a spinnerbait rod that I would also like to throw chatterbaits and buzzbaits. Additionally, could you throw these 3 baits with the same line? What rods have you had experience with that would adequately perform these techniques? I would have to also buy new reels with the rods and id like to keep it under $250 for each combo. I have plenty of time to decide so im starting my research now. Trying to budget my future purchases over the next few years. Any and all thoughts, advice, warnings, etc are welcome! Thank you for your time.

Wife Couldn't Understand
Laying in bed last night talking to my lovely wife about my passion for fishing. (She generally supports my interest in fishing. Somedays she will go with me but most of the time lets me go solo.) I mentioned that I would like to buy another rod and reel and some more tackle before spring. She was so confused! She said "You have 2 poles and a whole tacklebag already, why do you need more?" Then I proceed to spend almost an hour trying to explain rod power and action, their differences, and which ones to use for specific techniques. That conversation got me nowhere. So, then I thought of a decent analogy that she might comprehend. (She has thousands of $$ in makeup/cosmetic products) I pointed out that she has like 50 different makeup brushes. All different shapes and angles and sizes. I said, "Imagine if you only had 2 brushes to do your entire face." She goes, "That makes sense, I'm picking up what your putting down." I did it boys! I got my wife on board with me spending money every year on fishing gear with one stupid little analogy! Now the fun begins!

Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)
Ive been interested in the picasso rhino weedless ned head. Have you used this yet? What size hook would be best for a TRD or TicklerZ style ned?
-
Tough Little Pond
Def gonna try this but I will probably wait till spring ?

Tough Little Pond
I threw a ned rig with a TRD ticklerz, didnt dead stick it but I worked it super slow. Also tried the drop shot. No dice. It could just be the time of year. Might pick at it throught the winter or I might wait til spring to give it some attention.

Tough Little Pond
So theres a small rectangular pond near my home. Maybe half the size of a football field. I have fished it for about 18 hours total during 3 different fall outings. I caught 1 dink on a GP jig with a GP/Chart craw trailer on 1 outing. Then I caught my PB 4lb 11oz on a Chart dbl colorado spinnerbait on the next outing. My last outing this week I got skunked. I have thrown everything in my arsenal over the entire pond. In all different colors and sizes. What do they want?!?!?! Im sure theres more than just 2 LMB in that thing. I see no baitfish anywhere in the water. I have seen numerous brownish orange colored salamanders surfacing close to the banks and diving back down. Is that their only food source? Ive never fished a salamander before but im willing to try it out. Any advice is welcome.

R u a Tackleaholic?
I am becoming a "tackleholic" but thats just because I am new to the sport. I started out with a Zebco33, some hooks, bobbers and sinkers. I have spent close to $500 this year building up my tackle and tools. I want to try everything! My goal is to try it all out and see what I like best. So if I had to guess, I will be a tackleholic for at least a few more years until I get my preferences dialed in. But who am I kidding? I probably wont slow down.

Tatula Reels
So the SV TW or the SV TWS would be the best bang for the buck throughout the tatula line?
-
Tatula Reels
Honestly idk yet. Either a jerkbait/topwater rod or a spinner/chatter rod. I am all about saving some cash but I really want to test out the T-wing system.

Tatula Reels
Thank you good sir! This actually helped clear up my confusion.

Tatula Reels
Whats the key differences between the 100 and the CT? Would I be correct in assuming the differences between the 100-300 are just the sizes?
-
Tatula Reels
Im just exploring my options in my price range. Financially I cant bring myself to pay more than $500 per combo per year. All my experience comes from Zebcos and Uglystiks. Got really into bassin this year and it is an addiction I am happy to explore. My goal is to try the "best bang for the buck" from Shimano, Lews, Diawa, St. Croix, Dobyns, and Okuma. And from those I will surely learn what I like for which techniques and so on. Just because most people like a Dobyns Fury crankbait rod doesnt mean that I will like it. But, to get that answer I have to try it out for myself.

Tatula Reels
I am interested in trying out a Daiwa Tatula in the future. Well, I plan on trying just about every top brand in the future. But after my Shimano SLX combo I plan on saving up for a Daiwa Tatula combo. I will more than likely get a Tatula XT casting rod. But im not sure which Tatula reel to pair with it. Theres so many and I am not sure what the differences are. Theres Tatula 100, 150, 200, 300, CT, Elite, SV TW, and SV TWS. What are the differences? I am a little overwhelmed with the choices lol.

Line for Jigs
I think my problem is when I feel the line slipping off the spool I "feather" the spool with my thumb too hard lol. Or I dont "feather" fast enough and by then its backlashed. Ive played video games my whole life, I thought my thumb would be smarter than this!
-
Line for Jigs
I havent fished in freezing weather yet so this will be a fun experience this winter!
-
Line for Jigs
I dont backlash too often, and when I do its not too bad. Its only when i try to get max distance and 100% of the time its in the very middle of my cast, mid air. Im getting better though.

Line for Jigs
Only 1 of the lakes I plan to fish next year has some rip rap at the dams with some chunk rock here and there. The other 3-4 are mud/silt and wood. I might get some braid and some abrazex and try them both out. I have also heard good things about yozuri hybrid. Eventually I'll end up trying them all anyway lol
