  1. I’ve tried the Dobyns “Fury” that says pretty much the same type that Sierra rod says. It’s too whippy for walking baits for me. How is the comparison if you’ve used it before between the fury and the sierra ?
  2. Who are some of the best places to order from ? Tackle Warehouse kinda slow ??
  3. Looking at the Hammer rod….. heavy action you say ? Fast taper ? Fish stay pinned good with that rod and trebles ??? Noticed they mention on their website that the Heavy rods fish like MH’s and a parabolic bend to keep the fish pinned and I’d bet it will chunk em far too huh ? I wonder how fast Hammer would send that to my house ?? Thx man I’m really liking what I see.
  4. Regular action ???? Regular action ??
  5. I’d love to know who carries those Randy Howell rods I’m trying to find the Big TOPWATER / Spinnerbait model 7’4 which may be too long…..
  6. That’s the exact almost rod I’m looking for. Tatula Randy Howell big TOPWATER 7’4. Maybe I’ll look for that model thank you !!
  7. Looking for different rods to choose from can y’all tell me what rod y’all use for super spooks and rovers ? Thanks guys and gals ?
  8. Diawa designed a big TOPWATER rod 7’4 MH it has a short handle it’s designed to get bomb casts. Spinner bait/topwater. Thought that was what I ordered but they sent a glass Crankbait rod/ bladed jig I was hoping I could just use it for walking baits but I’ve already tried the Dobyns 705 cb rod for those and while some people love it for walking baits I really didn’t. Looks like I’m going to have to be patient and send the rod back and re order the right model…..ughhhh this is why I hate ordering stuff online and Diawa rods are hard to find these days.
  9. I just ordered the Brent Ehrler Tatula Elite rod for crank baits and chatterbaits. Made a mistake when I ordered it thinking it was the BIG TOPWATER Randy Howell……. I’m either gonna try to fish big walking baits with it or sending it back but Diawa rods are hard to find right now. I really wanted the TOPWATER rod but this glass rod they sent me may work ????
  10. You don’t think that since this rod is labeled “ Crankbait/Chatterbait” Chatterbaits are single hooks meaning it would generally take a good backbone rod ….. I don’t know I’m just upset Amazon is a horrible place to order fishing gear from they aren’t always specific enough…
  11. Hey guys I ordered a rod but they sent kinda a different model …on Amazon of course but it’s a Diawa Tatula Elite 7’4 Glass Crankbait /Bladed Jig rod. I thought I ordered the Big TOPWATER model…..but the reason that I ordered it is because last year I lost a lot of quality fish in tournaments on a stiffer mh graphite rod fishing for spotted bass and y’all already know how those things fight….. Reckon this rod will be a good fit for big walking baits ?? I sure hope so !! Thank you guys !
  12. The biggest problem with the graphs I have is knowing if the fish I am seeing is actually bass. The fish at this lake suspend only deep water most of the time unless they generate water and provide current ( usually stops at tournament time) and then you can catch fish on long points but when the current stops they suspend in deep water. I am familiar with those tactics I’ve just always powerfished. So I’m basically power fishing at least 20 feet above where the fish are holding ….at least. Carters Lake…..and TOPWATER is honestly the only way (besides jigs) that I feel confident in catching them. So I strike out a lot…. I’ve never caught a fish on a swim bait, guys that do use them catch them on little bitty ones on light tackle. We have mostly little small alewives as forage. 2 inches long and they stay deep and they are ALL OVER the lake so thick in places you can walk across them. I can usually catch a few when they feed on the surface but this year there has been so much bait fish hardly ever came shallow and why not ? They have so much more bait deep they don’t have to roam around much. The hybrids and the striped bass keep the bait down deep too.
  13. Ok so I need some advice. I fish a very deep mountain lake clear mostly and over the past 4 years I can catch some good quality fish here and there but in tournaments I have been getting hammered because I can’t fish deep finesse like these other guys do. I have 10 baitcasting setups and one spinning reel that stays at home so go figure…. These spotted bass are usually in the 35 to 70 foot range from spring to winter. I have a boat 2 Lowrance elite graphs and an Ultrex so I have to the equipment to be successful but I really only am when these fish come up shallow. Somebody rip me a new one and change my life ??? My Lord I live 15 minutes away from this lake and I fish it as much as any of them I’m tired of losing with the way I want to catch these fish !
  14. Sure would have been perfect if you would show us the pics of the spotted bass you mentioned lol
  15. But the forum here is the SUPER SPOOK. I don’t like a medium action for the bigger, heavier spooks. I’ve been trying to tweak it myself and I’ve lost many fish switching FROM what worked for me.....Shimano Exage 7 MH and 15 pound Big Game mono. Tried shorter rods ...medium action rods , braid to mono and straight braid. I think it’s important to compensate line with rod. Medium action is probably ok with braid. But for the bigger Spooks , I like a stiffer rod to make that sucker BLOOP . I’m still looking for the perfect rod and probably have it with the Shimano.
