Whats a good water level at Grants mill to float fish. Never been on the Cahaba

I've read a lot of post on anchoring kayaks. The way i've been anchoring in less that 6ft is with a tomato stake with of my dirt bike handle grips glue to one end. What i do is run it thru one of the scupper holes and works for me. Anyone else tried this? Only problem is in really shallow the handle it sticking up so high it kind of gets in the way but i work around it.
