Looking at several spinning rods...help!
Since the Tatula is a true medium, how is the sensitivity toward panfish? The rod I'm thinking of getting is the 7-foot, 2 piece, with an extra fast action, all the Tatulas are medium action. Thanks for your reply

do you own a Tatula? If so, is it a true medium action rod, or is it closer to a medium light, or closer to a medium heavy?

Cool stuff! I had to replace my almost new condition classic 85 Schwinn Le Tour Luxe touring bike after I got hit by a car that totaled the frame about 3 years ago, I really liked that bike too, extremely comfortable, extremely dependable, but it's gone. So, after much research I bought a 2020 Masi Giramondo 700c, it's a really nice bike for the price I paid, I would have had to spend at least another $1,000 more to get anything with slightly better components on it, so I got it just before C19 caused all the bikes to go bye bye on the marketplace. Like I said I do loaded camping and touring and need to keep the weight down, I run with about 60 pounds of gear, so I try to keep the weight down as much as I can afford to do without either sacrificing money or comfort to do so, thus the reason to want to go with a Tenkara rod set up. I was taking my earlier fly-fishing stuff, not the bamboo rod, just the cheap Scientific Angler rod, when I went places on the bike, but it was inconvenient due to the length of the rod. Once I discovered the Tenkara system I decided that would be the best route for me. I do carry something really odd for fishing, maybe you heard of it? It's called a Yo Yo Automatic fishing reel as a second fishing device in the water. Google it, it does work, of course for bait only, but I've caught fish with it, I don't have to do much, it automatically sets the line when a fish strikes and pulls the line in automatically. It comes with about 15 feet of white cored line (to that you have to attach your mono line leader if you want to, some don't, it's optional, I use a 2 foot long leader to make the line less visible). There is a great video on how to adjust this reel depending on what you want to do: You can find other videos of how to use this reel in the water, it really can work, sometimes the thing triggers and you get nothing, but that's fishing! I've used mine for 2 years or so now, and I've caught about 6 or 7 fish with it that I could keep. But it takes up hardly any space on the bike, it stores flat in my handlebar bag, I did put it in a hard plastic container so line/hook wouldn't snag anything in the bag or the bag itself. I simply go buy some bait at a campground and use it to bait fish with, and use the fly rod to while that one sets waiting to get triggered. I have quite a few bicycles too, well, quite a few according to my wife! I would have more but she tempers my desires down! LOL!!

Are you into cycling too? That's why I'm looking into the Tenkara fishing rods, so I can take it with me when I do bicycle camping and touring, and not have the extra weight of the reel.

Have any of you compared the Halo HFX with the Daiwa Tatula rod?

Looking at several spinning rods...help!
I just heard about the Daiwa Tatula when I was at that store that had those rods the sales guy was showing me, but they didn't have Tatula to try that throat vibration thing with, but I am looking into it, if any one can shed any light on it, and or how it compares to the others on my list, especially the Halo, that would be helpful. Thanks!

I can't get pics to post so all I can do is discuss stuff. I don't have much, all I have is a Mitchel Garcia 306 spinning reel from 1962 my brother bought new then I bought it from him when he turned 16; along with a Shakespeare Wonder Rod that came with the reel; I later added a Shimano Surf rod to use with that reel on the ocean. I then I have a Shimano Aero ULSA XT7 spinning reel (found out a couple of weeks ago that this reel is rare), with a Berkley Lightening Rod IM6, I bought both in the early 80's. Last week I bought a Daiwa BG2500, but haven't chosen a rod for it yet and until I do I'll use it on the Berkley. Have an mid 80's Fenwick rod (can't read the model since the decal is rubbed off, that I had a very small Penn reel for but that reel didn't last long, it died about 5 years after I bought it. I then have a inexpensive Scientific Anglers Concept 58 fly reel with a matching fly rod that came with the reel, but I use that reel now on an old Heddon custom made bamboo rod. I'm also looking into buying a Tenkara fly fishing pole system, no reel needed with those. So that's it, nothing fancy, nothing expensive, and not a lot of equipment, but, I can fish just fine with it all.

Looking at several spinning rods...help!
I'm looking for a new rod to go with my new Daiwa BG 2500. The ones I have considered is the St Croix Premier, Dobyns Sierra, Phenix Feather, and the Halo HFX. Each are around $160 range, each are around 7 foot long, and each are medium fast to medium extra fast. I considered those due to the high reviews I found on the internet as well as well likes on fishing forums. A sales guy at Sportsman Warehouse did something interesting I've never seen done before, he took all of those rods, had me hold them like I was fishing, then placed the tip of the rod slightly bent against his throat vocal box area with his hands off the rod, and spoke, and asked if I could feel his words vibrate through the rod. The only one I could for sure feel was the Halo, the others I didn't feel anything which surprised the sales guy, and saying my hand sensitivity might be lower than most people. However, I did feel the Halo vibrate. So I'm leaning towards that one but due to that weird test. He was a G Loomis fan but the prices are way too much for me to justify spending that much for such a rod, and I'm not a huge fishing hobby guy to justify spending top dollar for something that I won't use as much, so that brings me to the mid level rods I mentioned, they're more practical for my purposes. Anyway, I would like to hear your thoughts on these rods, and perhaps others.

How much money have you spent on your fishing addiction?
I'm a tightwad, so I don't go nuts with this hobby or my cycling hobby. Fishing wise I might have $800?? I only have 3 freshwater rods, 1 ocean surf rod, and 2 fly rods, with just 3 spinning reels, and 1 fly reel. I just recently added a reel, so I only had 2 spinning reels up until last week, I now need to buy a better rod. Three of my spinning rods and one of my spinning reels is 40 years old, my other spinning reel AND rod is 60 years old!! So I don't buy something as long as it does the job, but I did need a new reel because the 40 year old one is getting rough even after lubing it, and a new rod for it will come soon. I don't buy high end stuff either, just mid level gear.
