  1. I’ll try them out, I’m a big zman and Berkley fan
  2. I think I might do what @bulldog1935 said, I think if I have a reel like this I should at least try to make good use of it rather than letting it sit the way it has for 40 years. I’d still keep all the old parts in case I decide to retire it and put it back on the shelf the with the original parts.
  3. That’s a lot higher than I thought I’d, shouldn’t be too bad.
  4. Thanks, it will be very hard to get used to. If I can’t get used to it I’ll put it on the shelf for decoration.
  5. Mines SLIGHTLY faster than yours so I might give it a shot but it will be tough. I don’t know how the old timers caught fish using these slow reels, this reel used to be advertised as “high speed”.
  6. I found an old Abu Garcia Ambassador 4600 CB in my shed, my granddad had given it to me. It’s from the 70s or 80s. It’s gear ratio is 4.7:1, what could I use this reel for?
  7. I’m fairly new to fishing, check back in two months and I’ll probably have 5-6 pounds of soft plastics.
  8. That’s a great bag, I have the same one for surf fishing.
  9. I fish some creeks, not too much. I have a light spinning rod with lighter mono line for throwing small lures in creeks.
  10. I think I’ll go with the 12-14lb suffix elite. Looks I can get a 350yd spool for only $9 so that sounds like a good deal to me.
  11. Thanks again @bulldog1935! You’ve been great help. I’ve tried a bait caster years ago with braid and the backlashes pretty much made me quit, I’m not sure what happened to that reel but I have the rod. Sounds like monos probably the best way to go right now
  12. Ok, I might put on 15lb flouro because I have really clear water, I can tie on a short mono leader if I’m fishing top water, it will be a pain but I don’t fish top water too much. Eventually I would like to get another rod/reel so I can have one with mono and one with braid or flouro, just can’t afford that yet.
  13. Nice, I live in South NJ and at most lakes it’s all just weeds and grass when fishing from the shore.
  14. Nice choice! I always carry a fluke M/H I fish it weightless on a Texas rig. Creature bait M/H for a trailer and Texas rig I don’t carry many soft plastics, just the minimum.
  15. What are your favorite soft baits that you won’t leave home without? How do you rig them? What rod do you throw them on?
  16. How about fluorocarbon? Will mono be too stretchy?
  17. I just ordered a Lews classic pro 7.5-1 bait caster with a MHF rod. I almost always fish small ponds and creeks, I usually fish jerkbaits, spinner baits, some top water, and jigs. What line should I get? Should I use a leader?
  18. Thanks for the link, it seemed very helpful. I can’t afford to buy 2 more baitcasting combos so I might just get 2 rods and one 6.5/1 gear ratio bait caster reel. I’ll put on 20 or 30 pound braid and when I need to I’ll put on a 15 pound mono or flouro leader depending on the situation.
  19. What a great fish!
  20. I’m usually on the bank but do fish from kayaks sometimes. I try to cover as much ground as possible but where I fish there is too much dense vegetation to walk through in most spots, so I usually can’t cover too much.
  21. I just bought a bunch of hardbaits and jigs from Rapala, haven’t fished with them yet but they look great I’m also planning to order the Lews Classic Pro Speed Spool SLP to go with my med heavy 7ft casting rod.
  22. I’m a fairly new fishermen and only have a couple rods. A 5’6 Ultralight spinning setup, a 7ft medium spinning setup and I am planning to get a medium heavy 7ft bait caster. I am mainly fishing jerkbaits, spinner baits, jigs, and crankbaits. Should I bring more than one rod? If I only need to bring one rod, which one should I bring?
  23. Thanks, I was thinking about whether I should get right or left handed. I think I’ll go with left.
