  1. Hey, so I recently got a Shimano Cardiff 301A, and so far I have only one question. Should it be so d**n loud when I cast? It sounds as if the brakes are overly noisy, but then again, I've never used a reel of this type or size. Should I hear a loud zipping sound? I'm headed out to grab some reel oil this morning and before I use it again I'm at least going to oil the brakes. I'm hoping that helps a bit. Does anyone have experience with this reel? Does it matter how loud it is? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
  2. The Garage Sale Sack has become a yearly thing for me. For $100, I think you get your money's worth. I wouldn't have chosen those colors for the Trace/Draw, but those two combined are already $100. I try to avoid 6th Sense the rest of the year, but their paint jobs are hard to resist.
  3. Thanks, obviously a noob. Was trying to compress to fit the filter and went a little overboard.
  4. Picked up a Garage Sale Sack from 6th Sense. Great value, not thrilled about the Draw/Trace colors, but they're work. I also picked up the Contender Jr bundle from Karls, and I've already caught a solid 4.5 on the bluegill pattern. Not a huge fan of Googan, especially their hard baits, but these things definitely work. They work so well that I went ahead and bought the larger size in both Baby Bass and Bluegill, also from Karl's because they're reasonable there. TBH, I do not believe these things are quite worth $20, but they do work.
  5. Great info. I REALLY struggle getting bit on cranks. I usually throw them around docks and rocks and not much else, however, because the water I fish is normally not amenable to treble hook baits (lots of vegetation, usually not a hard bottom, etc. But I'm usually able to snag one or two running them down the sides of docks. Even lipless on bodies of water that do have a semi-hard bottom, they don't seem to work for me. I have a dedicated crank bait rod (Defy Gen 2 Black). But I'm wondering if reel speed is critical for cranking. I have used 6, 7 and 8s on my crankbait rod and I feel like 7 is the sweet spot, 8 being way too fast and 6 just being a hair too slow. Maybe that's my problem? Who knows, I don't struggle on most other lures like I do with these.
