  1. I'm a bank/dock fisherman so I don't normally get the boat angle
  2. So we don't have a boat, we fish the shores and banks of wherever we can find, which can be hard at times. Especially when I want to catch bass. The main areas we fish include Martin Marietta, Lawson's Creek, a certain kayak/boat launch and small dock in Pollocksville that I can't remember the name of. I'd like to keep the driving distances about 35 minutes or less from Havelock/New Bern area. I've only caught one bass from the rivers. Most of my catches come from ponds or lakes such as Martin Marietta. So does anyone have any recommendations on where to go? Any lakes or ponds would be really nice to find. I would like to find more access points to the rivers near me as well where bass might be. Btw, please don't recommend catfish lake. We avoid that place due to the crazy drivers on that road to get back there
  3. So basically it can dig a little, but don't let it go to far? Yup, me too. I keep it to where there has to be a fair amount of pull before it comes off, but just doesn't let the braid dig. If I was to do a hookset, I'd put my thumb over the spool anyways to brace it. Alright! That seems logical! I have had to tighten and loosen my drag before while fighting a fish. So shouldnt be anything too new for me to handle that way. That's a good thing to know! Thanks Do you think I need to think out the weed guards on them? I'm gonna be using it in THICK lake vegetation. I want to rip it right through and get the large fish hiding in there. My heavy cover jigs are 3/8oz and my rod is rated for anything up to 1oz. So I don't know if that's even a problem at all. I'm just not setting hooks hard enough from what I've gathered loll. This is really good to know! Thanks! I'll try that. I'll just use a 5lb weight in a doubled over grocery bag. This is my first time getting actual HC swim jigs, having jackhammers, and other quality stuff, so I feel like for a first bunch of stuff, this is pretty good. I might get some of those strike king swim jigs in the future, but I can't get a lot right now. I purchased things that I did research on and that would pair well together and have multiple purposes. I also love the colors of these jigs a lot more than the SK ones. I know what it is, I just wasn't sure what you meant by saying: "Ya ain't sticking with the weed guard!" ALR! I'll cross their eyes then! 🫡
  4. Usually I have it set so line starts to pull out RIGHT as the braided line starts to dig in on itself so I don't have anything bad happen to my spool. I use my thumb when pulling so line doesn't dig and drag doesn't pull out
  5. Lol. Sorry, my brain is running slow today. What do you mean? My set up is a daiwa coastal 150 sv tws 7.1 on an abu garcia vengeance pro series 7ft MH fast action. It's spoiled with 50lb braided line and has a 20lb mono leader (Sorry the quality on some photos are bad, they were really clear, but if im being honest the file size here really limits quality photos from being posted)
  6. This video was extremely informative for me! Thank you! Awesome! I'll definitely be trying to set the hooks like this then and remember that! Thank you! I appreciate all the help! I'll keep that in mind! Thanks!! I have the mono to act as, 1 a shock absorber for my chatterbaits and hard blows, but also as a form of line s.tealth so the fish don't see it as well. I'll try to shorten my casts, but I love sending it way out there so I can cover lots of water. I don't have a boat, so I like to make sure I'm getting the best use of the water available. Yeah sorry, no. I just got these and spent some nice money on some stuff, finally. The last thing I'm doing is just ditching them without giving them a chance. I have the dirty jigs no-jack and finesse swim jigs. I've seen the Hack Attack jigs and they kinda look the same as far as the weed guard goes, but I'm fairly certain the dirty jigs just have a better build to them. Oops, missed this reply lol. Yup, I was using the bitsy flip jig when the fish came off. I just didn't set it right lol. Thanks for the info! I'll keep in mind next time I'm out! 🫡
  7. This is great to know! Thanks! Alright! I'll be sure to hit em hard with it then! Lol Thank you Thank you so much for all this info! And the visual on the video definitely helped a lot for me as I'm a visual and hands-on learner most of the time. My set up is a daiwa coastal 150 sv tws 7.1 on an abu garcia vengeance pro series 7ft MH fast action. It's spoiled with 50lb braided line and has a 20lb mono leader
  8. So today I was pond fishing and I had 2-3 fish that took my jig (yes, fully cause they were taking it with good force), but then when I tried setting the hook, they were able to fight it off... My question is, how hard should hooksets really be? I don't want to be one of those youtube guys that are exaggerating it, but I also want to make sure I'm actually getting that hookset. So how hard do I have to set it?
  9. Already got some. I have a lot of other soft baits off screen lol
  10. So I just got a huge upgrade in gear as far as tackle! (Ignore the crankbaits and spinnerbaits though, I've had those for a while lol)
  11. Topwater minnow in the afternoon. They put up some healthy fights
  12. Alright... Actually I think I figured it out... That's not a twist in the knot. So the video I watched had me do multiple half hitches. That section that "twists" (photo will be shown below) is just where the half hitch knot forms. So it's just a little offset.
  13. That's very true. One time I was really stupid and tied a knot cause I didn't have any bobber stops for the weights... Bass took it into the weeds and snapped at the knot I made... Large fish too... Still think about it lol. I feel pretty confident in this knot, though. Sure it has one small crook in it, but I've done tests flips and casts. Haven't noticed anything going on with it.
  14. Alright! Well then I think I'll keep this one since the leader isn't too large and I'll probably have to tie it some other time in the future. Then I can remember the other dos and donts lol Thank you all for the advice and help!
  15. Oh, so it's still not going to hold well then? I'm gonna be using jigs, swim jigs, top water frogs, underspins, and chatterbaits on it
  16. Alright! That's great to know! I did a total of 19 wraps! Thank you! This one, I believe is much better. I can keep this one on, I think, yes?
  17. Alright guys! I attempted it again and got it! There is a small bend in the knot, but u test casted it and it works great! The brain is now actually ON the mono lol
  18. Yeah, that was the method I tried using... It was so frustrating cause the loops just kept turning into the lines just twisting... I don't understand how wrapping mono around braid will equal the braid wrapping around the mono... Yeah, I'm gonna try to re-tie it but I don't want to use too much of my spool of braid on my reel
  19. Do you guys think it'll still hold up well? I mean I did put gloves on and pulled as hard as I could a few times and it didn't budge...
  20. Yeahhh, lol. I realize I messed up somewhere... It looks so simple in all the videos, and then I go to do it and it becomes so complicated. I guess I'll just keep doing it!
  21. This is a really good video as well! I've watched a fee others that were also really good. It's obvious though that I messed up somehow. The knot I have now IS holding though and is very strong. So I'll keep this for now, but next time I do it I'm trying other methods Thank you!
  22. I mean I tested it by pulling it with gloves on and it held very well. I think the braid is digging into the mono, although at first I thought the same lol
  23. Please rate my first FG knot. It took so long to learn and I'm still not that good at it, but I think I got it done successfully. Got a few cuts too from the line loll
  24. I might just use the stock then. Im getting all my stuff from a site other than TW and that's not one of their products, although I really appreciate the advice! Thanks! I might get some at another time. I looked at it and I don't really like it compared to the Owner. Thank you though!
