I've heard a number of anglers talk about figuring out what the bass are feeding on and then try to imitate that with their lures. How do you know what the bass are feeding on? I imagine the forage changes throughout the year - how do you go out to a body of water and determine the forage de jour? Especially as you go to new lakes?

Gave MK a call and they are sending a replacement control unit. We'll see if that corrects the issue.

I plugged straight in to both of my Helix units - a 9 & 10 (bypassing the extension cable) and neither unit connected with the Ultrex. The same units and cable connected to the Mega Live transducer just fine. So must be something with the Ultrex itself?

Helix 10 with MinnKota Ultrex connected to it. The Ultrex randomly stopped showing up on the control head. Was there one day functioning normally and gone the next. No updates were done in between. All connections are still good. Thoughts?

Wondering if anyone has found or used a steering lock for a motor with a steering arm on one side only? I'm running a Mercury Pro XS 115 4-stroke that has the steering arm on just one side. I've got the DD26 transom saver, but can't find steering locks for a single arm. Is there anyway to lock it from rocking side-to-side while trailering?

I like the idea of using the 5 for mapping and high speed bottom reading (if it's networkable). Would you put the SI and the high speed transducers next to each other? The picture shows the transducer mounted on there right now, which is whatever one came with the Helix 5. I'm assuming it's the XNT 9 HW T. Is that adequate for high speed? I will check the exact specs of the control head and the transducer when I go back to the dealer next week to get them my current electronics for rigging. Looking at Humminbird's website, it doesn't look like any of the Helix 5's can be networked.

After spending years fishing off of the family deck boat, we're springing for our own bass boat this year. Super excited! We've already got a Helix 9 with Mega Live we've had for ice fishing that we're going to mount on the bow and going get another Helix 9 to mount at the console with SI. The boat we are getting has a Helix 5 on the console right now. Wondering if there are any suggested uses for the Helix 5 (second graph, stern mount, etc.) or is it not worth it and better to just sell it?
