  3. So I am sitting here stringing line on my new reels and putting them on my rods. It occurred to me that some of my rods have large line guides, and some have rather small guides to the tip. I imagine that the smaller guides work better for worm or jig rigs, but I started wondering this: I am starting to use a baitcaster after MANY years of not fishing. Is there any scientific research on casting distance, and how do line guides either help or hinder the distance when using a baitcaster? Does anyone have an opinion on this or experience with these conditions? I have not SERIOUSLY fished in 30+ years, and now I am returning to it. Am I overthinking this or what? I welcome anyone's opinion on this, because I am seriously searching for answers on my gear, before I even hit the water. Here's to hoping I have a season of ZERO birdnesting on my first serious year back to the sport. Thanks.
