Here in West Virginia i would say the average angler could catch a 8 lbs 5 bass limit on a average day on a lot of bodies of water. A lot of tournaments are won with with 13lbs limit sometimes on certain lakes it might be 18lb but that's not the norm. Although if you go to the New River in southern WV its not uncommon to catch a 6lbs smallmouth but its a dangerous river and hard to fish.

I have just lived in Morgantown for a few years. I catch bass everytime i go on the Mon. I go on the bank or in my kayak usually at least once a week. I've caught my 2nd largest WV bass this year on a crankbait over 4.5lb largemouth i do good on crankbaits and senko also chatterbaits. I've hooked a few musky too. I saw a guy catch a nice musky from the bank on a bladed jig last weekend. I do pretty good on cheat lake too and if you dont mind driving an hr cheat river near parsons wv is a great smallmouth river. And stonewall jackson is only about an hr down i 79. Good luck

You could get some heavier braid maybe 30lb or just put mono on there. There is nothing wrong with mono. I used it my whole life then when I got more serious learning to bass fish YouTube acted like mono was cursed. So I was confused I thought I had to have braid or FC. After some expensive backlashes and some experiments I have learned that braid and FC has their place both are good lines with strengths and weaknesses, but nothing is wrong with plane ol mono. Thats the long way of saying Berkeley big game #12 would work good for you. Or if you really want braid get a heavier bigger diameter. Good luck good fishing. Jeff
