I have used both. Drilling holes in your motor will void your warranty and create 2 weak points so the skeg can break off clean leaving nothing. The stainless part have no enhancing feature and is just a cover. As far as strength is concerned, lay both parts in your driveway and pound them with a sledge hammer. You will flatten the stainless part and the polymer part can be installed immediately.
