  1. Gamakatsu are the only worm hooks that I like to use. They are also very sharp!
  2. This might be sort of a stupid question.... I have heard jigs are a finesse lure so lighter line is best.. .but then again... is lighter line a good idea to fish in heavy cover? I have been using 10lb for all my rigs, but I recently went up to 20 on my spinnerbait rig. What line do you guys use for jigs?
  3. When I was around the same age, I also didn't have any money for lures. So for birthdays and Christmas I would ask my parents for trips to walmart for tackle instead of presents. Though, mostly we would fish local ponds with cane poles and just catch grasshoppers and crickets, frogs etc around the bank of the ponds. Or in our yards or anywhere we could find some high grass. You would be surprised how many bass we would catch on grasshoppers lol. Perhaps if you know anyone who has a boat, you could offer cleaning, etc in exchange for old lures... Either way, good luck and keep on fishing/trying
  4. This site has a ton of info. Back when I started fishing, the internet didnt exist! Seriously, I know I am only 25, but when I started fishing we didn't have wonderful online forums. I had to ask random people that I met tips and techniques. Welcome to the board and have fun.
  5. I just bought my first bag of Senko to try out wacky and trigged. After looking at the rigging, I bet that a soft lizard would be effective wacky rigged. I have had success with them Trigged weightless and with bullet weights. Zoom chartreuse pepper!
  6. This question is pretty interesting. If you are just putting a boat in the back of a truck, and using cement launches... 2wd would be fine with a 4cyl. However, if you were planning on going off the cement at all, I would def. recommend a 4x4. I had a 4 cyl 2wd Tacoma and the tires would spin in grass even if it it was just wet grass. If you EVER plan to tow a bigger boat with a trailer, I would go V6 over 4wd. Although, it all depends on what you want to do. Thankfully, I upgraded to a v6 4x4 Tacoma. I haven't got to pull a boat with it yet though.
  7. I tried as hard as I could to save it. I had my entire hand in the mouth of the fish trying to get the lure out. By the time I got it out and put the fish back in, it was just kinda floating around :/ The biggest bass taken out of this particular lake was right at 12 pounds. This 6 is/was the biggest fish we have seen there in about 5 years.
  8. You guys will probably hate me for this one.. but.. I was fishing at night about two years ago, one of my first times night fishing. I had a scum frog tied on and was just leisurely walking about the bank (private lake in a subdivision) casting and retrieving. Then it sounded like someone dropped a bowling ball in the water. When I got the fish up to the bank blood was pouring out the gills.. and the fish was gut hooked. It swallowed the hook whole. Since I didn't really expect to catch anything on a green scumfrog at night, I was completely unprepared and didn't have any tools or anything with me. The fish died while I was trying to get the hook out. So I decided to mount the fish and honor it that way. It was only right at 6 pounds though. 6.2 if I remember right. Needless to say, I always put more preperation into my fishing now.
  9. I have had some success on the Scum Frog. In chartreuse color with white and chart. skirt

  11. I fish on the bank of a small lake most of the time, so this thread will help me too. I find that if I walk to the waters edge, I have to remain still and wait about 10-20 minutes before I can start to catch a decent amount of fish. It is very possible to catch great fish on the bank. I caught my biggest bass from the bank at night (6lbs)
