Mono

Featured Replies

can you use frogs with 14lb mono when running it through very light vegetation? i have yet to miss a fish. (i have only caught three, lol.)

If it's working than it's working but I would rather be safe than sorry using braid. 50# braid is usually 12# dia mono equivalent

It will work...for me the thing with mono is not that it will break in the weeds, but the stretch it gives to get a good hookset. On a big fish you will get a lot of stretch and not be able to penetrate that upper lip of the fish and you will lose fish because of that.

For hollow bodies like Spro etc braid only. For buzz frogs I use 15-17 lb mono and have not had a problem hooking up. To me fishing buzzfrogs is not much different than fishing buzzbaits as far as hook diameter. I use 17# Suffix Seige most of the time on a Mustad Powerlock light weighted swimbait hook. I also use this set up for swimbaits like skinny dippers etc.

A Yum Buzzfrog fished over sparse grass or open water adjacent to cover I'll use 12# mono, if I'm in grass but not thick stuff I'll use 17# mono but if it is slop I use the 50# braid, that is the only time I use braid.
