Went out for some smallmouth today and we got what we wanted! The first fish I hooked up with was without a doubt my biggest smallie... I thought I was on the bottom until I felt her head shake, then

Shane and I got out today, fished a new sport for the first time and put together an alright day. Lots of pickerel, some pretty small bass but I did manage my biggest fish of the year SO FAR at 6lbs o

  • What's up, everyone?! Figured I'd bounce on here, say hi. I got so tied up in chasing fish this year, I forgot to do anything else. I hope you all are happy and healthy in this new year, and have big

Ya I picked one up on a total impulse buy. It's just like other abu reels but red and faster. Still trying to figure out when to use it

Topwater, and flippin heavy stuff.

Top water is what I've been using it but honestly it doesn't do it any better than a 6 or 7 gear ratio

I'm gonna give it a shot with lipless cranks and square bills when it starts getting warmer, see if "slow rolling" it with the rocket is any better than burning it with a slower reel

My first thought was using it for pitching in thick stuff and maybe for a Carolina rig; having to move all that line and the weight on a hook-set might be easier with a burner reel. I haven't thrown Carolina rigs too much though so maybe there would be a problem that I'm not seeing.

I was figuring a pure pitching rod set up using it, There's no way you could get a usable cadence for anything else.

Yeah, I figure the advantage it has is with pulling in slack and fish from cover quicker rather than actually moving a lure that much faster... 9.0:1 is mean

9.0 : 1 ? That is super fast. That reel will pick up line in a hurry. It would be useful burning spinner baits or chatter baits, or buzz baits.

It's great for buzzbaits, I didn't use too many chatterbaits on it. But for double Colorado blade spinners it felt like too much

When I am burning a spinnerbait I use double or single willow blades. When I am using double Colorado blades I tend to be slow rolling it.

The Colorado blades didn't feel good at all on the rocket even going as slow as I could.

at 9:0.1 your talking 6 ft of line in less then a second using normal turning @ 2 revolutions a second or so.

Maybe I'll give it a shot flipping jigs, beer had much luck with them before but I have a boat this year so maybe I can use them more effectively

Drove to just about every public boat launch within an hour of me in southern maine... Ice is soft but still no open water. Ended up fly fishing the Presumpscot river by sebago and finished with a big goose egg. Hopefully with the weather being in the 50s next week some stuff should open up.

Anyone hear of any iceout lakes in New Hampshire? either northern or central NH?

I would not trust any lakes for a couple weeks even if you don't visibly see the ice. You might not see the ice but it could be sunken under a couple inches of water and smash your boat up good. At least my boat is out of hibernation :)

That's an awesome sight bob. At least now when the right day arrives you'll be out on the water without any hassle from the boat or equipment. Someday I hope to have a backyard that is half fiberglass too.

I have a Tracker Avalanche she's all aluminum :)

Haha dang it, put me in my place why don't ya! How long have you had it? I've been looking at some aluminum boats this past year... A lot of manufacturers are starting to produce them. I can't afford one too soon but it's my most realistic option down the road. I've looked at Tracker, Ranger, and Triton. Some of them are so nice!

Had this for 4 yrs now. Tracker doesn't make them anymore because they are so expensive to make its .125 thickness what they called bullet proof aluminum.  they made it using hydro pressing same way they make planes.  mine is a 2004 with a xr6 150. when empty i can hit over 60 mph in it. she is a very stable boat able to go through anything Winni gives out, Awesome storage in it as you can see a dozen rods and still room for more. I have had people tell me no way its a aluminum boat till I show them where a couple weld marks are.I got a good deal for this at Dover Marine even came with a 36vt 101 lb thrust trolling motor and two lowrance w/gps units. But at the moment going no where till ice out someplace.

Hit the Nashua up for a little while today. first time out got skunked but it was good to be out, the water is really moving right now

First fish of the season, chubby one too!  Same Fish put next to rod for idea of length.

I have to throw the senkos back in my arsenal for those clear blue bird days. They really do work just find them boring to fish at times haha
