first in the pond i fish, i slay em wacky, though out of every 5, one is down their throat, its that soft puffy part, usally if ya pull, they bleed out the gill.

i know countless threats have been made and when am fishing the lake, i never have this problem, but what is yalls go to hook for this type, i have tried, gama split shot/drop shot in 1/0 and the finesse wide gap 1/0, all the same results, is it just somthing i will have to live with? big pond but if every 5th fish dies, as mutch as i fish it, i could deplete it lol, about 100% sure it cant be my tactic as i watch line, alotta time when it falls the line doesnt jump at all. I assume it falls in front of them and they pick it up, not moving at all. idk..

also should i keep a little thing of peroxide for this, heard it is good for applications like this

ps. if i move up a size in the hook, it almost like the turn off

You could try the Gamakatsu Barbless Octopus hook.

i write all that and you kill it, lol didnt even think of that, when i think octopus, i think catfishing and didnt think it would work for bass

these are the best wacky hook i have used its a owner wacky hook. Even though i suggest this hook for wacky i don't feel like the hooks your problem. Like you said you are a line watcher and alot of time line watchers never know they have a fish because the fish will just simply inhale it and not move at all. ALWAYS keep in touch with your line at all times!! also what kind of line are you using? if its braid i would switch to fluorocarbon, braid does not transmit any feel on slack line.

I think that is just part of senko fishing. They love those things. I would crimp the barb with pliers. You will still catch your fish and the hook can be easily removed if it is swallowed. Especially since your not fishing for the dinner table.

it fireline fused, guess i could put a fluro leader, and yea crimp the barb is good aswell

1/0 ir 2/0 circle hook, I use regular old Mustad circles, or used to, rarely wacky rig a weightless senko, but my son uses this setup a lot and his hookup ratio is great and also never gut hooks a fish

Keep a tighter line, pay closer attention, and set your hook sooner. Not uncommon to deep hook a fish while fishing weightless plastics, but 1 in 5 is very high.

Also, there is a really nifty trick to getting the hook out of a fishes gullet that greatly reduces the damage to the fish. I would describe it but I know I would mess it up. Pretty sure there is a link to it floating around on this site somewhere that has step by step pictures.

And like susky said, try setting the hook earlier before they get a chance to get it into their throat.

Also, smash the barb down. I don't lose any more fish than I usually do haha. Just keep good pressure on him.

If I gut hook a fish, I cut the line and let it go. Much better than messing with gills or the gullet.

NO. Get the hook out. Hooks do not dissolve or fall out, they simplay cause further unnecessary damage and harm to the fish. Use the method linked to above to remove.

Switch to fluro line(not a leader) and you will see it jump and feel the bite, even with slack in the line......And forget the peroxide for fish(except for livewells)...................Al

Line watching can definitely cause this. Its not a 100% technique to pick up a bite. I can bet anything that they are catching your lure on the fall and not giving a sign that they grabbed it, which allows them time to swallow the hook.

I always pick the tip up and feel for anything after the line stops, just lightly as to not move the bait much. They won't always move off with it, or hit it hard enough to cause that jump in your line.
