Featured Replies

My son and I went fishing this AM. We managed a few bass ,3 crappie,1 raccon perch, 20 bream and a 24" bowfin. My son did a great job with the net.

Man those things are nasty, but fight like a champ. We regularly catch them when spinner bait fishing!

WTG, I'm surprised the bowfin didn't chew a hole through the net :laugh5: Bet your son had a blast on that excursion!

nice man sounds like a fun trip. i hear bowfins some good eatin'! never tried it though. :drink-eat:

Nice! They are a nasty fish for sure, but fight good.

A guy that works with one of my buddy's caught but didn't know what it was, and he lipped it to try to get the hook out! My buddy said his thumb was all tore up.

If I had caught that I would have thought it to be a snakehead. Did a little research and found the differences between the two. Thanks for posting a pic.

Also down south we call the "grennel"

Jeff

I saw one hanging out near a weedline last week. It was the biggest one I have ever seen, I would have guessed him at 15 or more. I tried to get him to bite, but he wasn't having it. I thought maybe I could get a state record, but when I came home and looked it up, our record is over 20. No way he was that big. It still would have been fun, though.

USE A MUSTAD HOOK! Lol!

I've only caught one of those & it was like 2lbs

You bet I had a Mustad hook. I registered back when that offer started. I'm not sure if I would have even tried to catch that fish otherwise.

I have caught them at Santee-Cooper and all over Florida. Common name there is Mudfish..............Al
