Respooling

Featured Replies

when respooling a baitcaster, which way should the line come off the filler spool, clockwise or counter clockwise? i always forget.

Neither, it should come off with the new line spool rotating lile shown on the above post with a Berkley line spooler. Absent a spooler use a pencil through the spool and have someone hold the pencil and put some tension on the turning spool.

If the filler spool is mounted on a spindle the line should come off the top to spool a baitcaster and off the bottom to spool a spinner. If spooling a spinner with the filler on the floor the coils coming off the filler should be going in the same direction they are being wrapped onto the reel spool. If the line is twisting flip the filler over.

I always just make sure the sticker thats on the spool is facing up. I dont use a spooling station, to me its a waste of money. Just lay the spool on the floor run the line throught the first guide before the reel, and use your fingers to apply a little bit of resistance while reeling the line on the spool.

That is not a good way to do it because label placement varies, even within a manufacturer and I've even seen variation within the same brand for different pound tests. Place the filler spool on the floor so the line comes off counterclockwise if you're doing spinning.

I think the best advice I heard was" all spinners rotate clockwise so you want the line coming off the spool counter clockwise" by bill dance
