What are the Pros and Cons of split grip handles? Got out of the bass fishing scene a while recently got back in the game and seems these have become popular in my abscense. How do you guys like them vs a full grip?

I don't think it is anything more than marketing something that looks different.

There is a small weight savings.

Rod companies can use less raw materials and charge more for the rod because they "look cool."

Pros-----Weight savings (slight) and a sleeker look

Cons---- Can give the rod a more tip heavy feel and the butt end can get hung up in your jacket or sweater pocket

Just started using three ABU Veritas rods this month and had never used split grips before. The adjustment period was about 10 minutes and they then felt natural. Tried using my older rods the next day and they felt big and clunky and were not nearly as comfortable as the split grips.

Consequently, I am now a fan of split grips.

Weight savings, good looks, some things that are true. To me the feel of the rod is a lot better. The way that the main handle is sloped on most of them allows for a better grip/feel for me.

Preference is key, I don't like them because how I throw

Made the transition to all split grips a few years ago, never looked back. They just feel better to me. Its all a personal preference though. Same with Left hand and right hand retrieve.

I personally hate split grip. I do a lot of cranking, and just can't grip a split handle with both hands when I sling it. Will be unloading my Mojo Bass and Vendetta in the Flea Market soon because of it.
