Ive seen some jigs made with both silicone skirts and bucktails, I think they give a very natural look. What are some ways of attatching the bucktail?

I tie mine. I don't use wire since i love the control i have with ultra GSP thread and it is addicting. I usually slap a marabou as my base and then add bucktail and then finish it off with silicone all the way around. I have no idea how it compares to doing it a different way or more time efficient way but i love to make them this way and the end result really looks as good as it can i guess. The Tube has great instructional videos for certain techniques. I kinda have my own style with it but they have great advice and examples.

When I tie a hair jig it very seldom has silicone in it but I have done it for some people and the only way is to tie with thread, wire will not hold the hair very well. I've seen a mostly silicne skirt with just a little hair added to it and I've seen hair jigs with just a few strands of silicone added to it.

Where do you guys get your Bucktail at? Are you using real bucktail or imitation?

What did you expect?? What you do is see where the length you need is on the tail and cut some hair off it, DO NOT CUT THE TIPS OFF!!!!!!! Cut from the base and tie to your jig and any excess gets cut off from the head of the jig. I had a guy ask me why his hair jigs had no action and when I saw how he butchered up the tail it answered the question. I suggest you look on youtube for a video or have someone show you how to work with natural bucktail, it isn't rocket science but if you cut the tips off the hair your jigs will be garbage, the tip of the hair is hollow, the base isn't and it is hard for me to find the right words to describe what to do.

Any retailer that caters to fly anglers should have a good assortment of bucktail, bear hair, and other fibers used for fly tying. The trick to tying hair is to measure it against your jig and cut it to size before you tie it in. Trimming the butt ends after you tie it in, makes for a bulky collar and a sloppy looking jig. Have fun.

I been using the mister twister split double tail trailer on all my spinnerbaits, top props ect. I haven't tried them on jigs yet. These look like there swimming when they move in the water.
