Best Pond Jigs?

Featured Replies

We've had mild weather recently that's extended our pond fishing, so I'm trying to adjust accordingly.

The reaction bite has all but disappeared, so I'm slowing way down and using plastic lizards right now with varying success.

I don't currently own any jigs, so I was wondering if any of you all could recommend some to try.

My primary outfit is a Shimano Curado 200 on a 6' Fenwick Eagle GT with Triple Fish Camo-Escent, 10# test.

Size, head shape and color, weight, skirt patterns and trailers are confusing, to say the least, especially when fishing from the bank or dock.

Thanks to all and Happy Thanksgiving!

u could get zoom tiny brush hog with size 2 hook and 1/16 bullet weight or 4 in senko tx rig or wackey

I really like BooYah's Boo jig in 3/16 and 1/4. The jig pulls through grass easily which is great for where i fish.

yep, the baby boo is a great bait.match with a 3 inch twin tail grub or a paca chunk.

Ok, I'll decide to chime in. The jig was my most producing pond bait this year. I threw any jig that was 3/16 oz or lighter (as light as a 1/16), mostly bitsy bugs and baby boo jigs. I always trim the skirt back to the bottom of the hook. This gives it a smaller profile and makes the skirt flare out a little more, then I always used the same two trailers, either a Zoom Swimmin' Chunk or a Zoom Salty Pro Chunk. I always used 2 colors as well, sometimes three, they were green pumpkin, black with blue fleck, and sometimes just plain black.

I hope this helps!!!

Oh I almost forgot, how to work it.

Always try to pitch or cast as close to the cover as you possibly can.

And ALWAYS make multiple pitches/casts to the cover.

Hop it a couple of times, pause,  hop it once pause, repeat.

OR crawl it along nice and slow on the bottom.

Do any of you guys use the Uncle Josh Pork Frog trailers with your jigs?

No I will use paca chunks, rage tail chunks, and rage tail craws. When I'm using the chunks on smaller jigs I will trim the skirt up a bit but if I'm using the rage tail craws I'll usually leave the skirt alone and just trim the weedgaurd a hair.

Thanks, guys!  Supposed to get up to 63 degrees here today, hoping to grab some of your suggested combinations and get back out there!
