Been looking at bass boats. I think I am going to pull the trigger soon. Got to thinking about this today looking at an 18' dual console Stratos. The deck just doesn't seem that long.

How do you guys not step on rods when you have 3-6 rods on deck? I am thinking a single console may serve me better as then I can have the rods lean off the deck a little more where the other console.

So school me please.

Simple answer: Rod Straps. Here's mine

I use the bungy cords and they work well. 18' with dual console is a bit of a pain. I had a Stratos 295 XL Pro with dual consoles and swore it would be my last. my 19' tin has a larger deck than many 20' bass boats and the single console is just awesome.

You can even get the rod straps at walmart.

Pull out rod straps

Rod straps are your answer.

I agree with the post about the dual console. They take up a lot of room and if you use longer rods, they take away some length in the rod storage on the passenger side. On a single console the passenger side rod locker is usually longer due to the lack of that console. Besides...you drive all the time so you will always have the protection of a console. Your passenger isn't paying for it, so they don't get any wind/rain protection!!

I have a dual console and the passenger will be easy to removed and install..
