I carry a sharp pair of dykes with me at all times. If the hook is deep (gut) I just cut the hook where its easily reached and slide it out. Never had a problem doing this, and it save a lot of time. I would rather save the fish than my 20C hook.

wouldnt you rather save both? learn the through the gills method, you will save the fish and your hook. once you get it, its quick and easy and you dont leave anything lodged in the fish. its one of the best things ive ever learned on this site...

No part of the hook is left in the fish. I cut the hook, whether through the mouth, or access through the gills, and then I can slide the hook out without the barb being an issue.

ok, i misunderstood and thought you were leaving part of the hook in the fish. Regardless, you could be saving your hook too, and i still would recommend that everyone learn the through the gills method.
