Trim Switch

Featured Replies

My trim switch on the throttle is not working. I assume it is the switch because my bow mount switch works fine. Anyway does anyone know where I can look at to figuring out how to replace it on my own?? if it is not to difficult since this time of the year I have less than time than in the winter to work on it. If someone has already tried and it would be better to take it to a mechanic that is fine just let me know some information on this topic. Thanks guys.

It would help if you could tell us what kind of boat it is.

Most of the T handle type throttles can be split and the switch replaced. I changed one on a OMC box.

Getting it apart and making notes of the positions of the moving parts is helpful. The switch replacement is easy.

You'll have to take the control apart to replace the switch. I have no idea if it's a simple or complex job, nor do I know your personal mechanical abilities. So, I'll give my standard reply. Check with a dealer and ask them how much it will cost to replace the switch, parts and labor.

It could be a twenty dollar job, or a hundred dollar job. From there, it's up to you to weigh the cost of having it done against your confidence in your ability to do the job for the dollars you might save.

I say might, because if you buy the part, and then botch the job, it is going to cost you more when all is said and done.
