I haven't been able to test this myself because my bass season has started yet up north.

At the end of last season I started fishing a zoom speed worm. I had trouble getting the action I was hoping for. This year I have downsized my line to 12# Yo Zuri to help with the action. I had the worm rigged so the paddle tail was parallel with the water's surface (does that make sense?). 1/4 oz lead weight. Casting gear. MH 6'10" worm stick.

If you fish this worm, how do you get best action/results from it? Including the orientation of the rig (ie paddle parallel to the surface or perpendicular??)

There are actually two Zoom Speed Worms - one has a paddle tail and one has an ultra-vibe tail. I righ the paddle tail paralell to the surface and the ultra-vibe perpendicular to the surface. I like to use June bug and June bug red and will often dip the tail in a chartruese dye. I fish them both as bottom bouncers and swim 'em.

I think the line was too heavy and hopefully the drop in line size will put some more action into that worm.

I just couldn't get it to kick while slow rolling it at all. I had to burn it and twitch the rod. But this was too fast a retrieve for the bass at the time.

Ultra Vibe Speed worms are what I use. T-Rig them with a 3/0 EWG, and use a 1/32 oz bullet weight, and 12# YoZuri. Just keep the rod tip high enough so the tail flaps out of the water, and watch the fish come and get it.

I fish that worm as well...easy to get that tail flapping!

I had the same experience a few years ago when I bought a few bags. I was told that the tail does not move that way at slower speeds. These are popular worms and the style has been around a while. Pete Thliveros won a Bassmaster Tour event a few years back with this style worm. Please post if you find a better result. Good luck.
