Baitcasting For The Beginner

Lately, there has been many questions regarding buying a first baitcasting set up, to what line to use etc. So here's some answers for those beginners looking for help:

When buying your first baitcaster buy the best that you can afford. It will make your experience more enjoyable, less frustrating and shorten the learning curve.

Now, most fishing can be done with 2 combos. 1) 6'6-7', MH Power, Fast/Extra Fast Tip for Soft Plastics, Spinnerbaits, Most Single Hook lures.

2) 6'6-7' M Power, Medium Tip for Treble hook lures

Reel: Look for a reel with in the 6.4:1 ratio. That's your all around ratio for most fishing. Shimano, Abu Garcia, BPS Pro Qualifier,Lew's, Daiwa etc all make great reels just buy the best that you can afford.

Line: Your basic all around performer is 12# test. You'll want to buy an affordable line at first such as Yo-Zuri Hybrid or another mono/copoly.
