I like using a glass rattle with my soft jerkbait, but it always falls out. There's not much room to put a rattle in. Or, the glass rattle I use is too big. Either way, I'm wondering if there's a decent soft jerkbait out there where there's enough plastic to put a rattle without having to severely upsize my bait. Any other suggestions for fishing soft-jerkbaits over the top of / and through vegetation?

Yamamoto D-shad has more plastic than a fluke, so does the Strike King Caffine shad. I prefer them both over the Zoom Superfluke, with the nod to the D-sahd for the better of those two. An often overlooked way to fish them over the top of grass is to just burn them across the surface. They will skip, hop, flop, splash there way back to you and get some pretty violant strikes.

You might be using a very small bait or very large rattle.

As to the vegetation, in addition to what you usually do, let the bait sink into holes and at the edges if you don't already do so.

If you have confidence in the specific jerkbait your throwing, dont change it!!! Just insert the rattle, take it back out, then drop a dab of superglue on it and re-insert it. You should be good to go!

Good luck, man! Soft plastic jerkbaits are one of my confidence baits and like ww2farmer said, the Yamamoto d-shad KILLS the fish. I also really love the Zoom superfluke in smokin shad. I rig all mine with a 3/0 Gamakatsu ewg, 8lb fluoro, and a Spro barrel swivel about 10" up the line. Twitch, twitch, pause, twitch, pause, repeat,,,,that is, if a fish hasn't already engulfed it!!!
