Heatin' 'em Up

Featured Replies

My partner in crime got an electric toaster oven for Father's day to use to bake his jigs aftern painting them (his wife got tired of his using the one in the kitchen). Our question is can we use this to heat up the jigs before dipping them in the powder pain? If so, how hot do they need to be? Thanks.

I would think you would be able to do that...the only thing is that it will take the heads a long time to get up to the temp they need to be to paint. It's much quicker to use a heat gun to paint.

I'm not sure of the actual temp they need to be, at this point, I just go by feel.

Yes, you can use that toater oven to heat the jigs for dipping into powder paint. What you need to do is set the thermostat to 350 and hang the jigs in the oven for about 10 minutes or so, then they should be hot enough to paint. One word of caution, be sure to get either an infrared thermometer or an oven themometer that is calibrated and use it the check the oven temps, toaster ovens are notorious for being way off on their thermostats.

^^ Yep! That's the way I do all my jigheads.

There are a lot of ways to do things. You have to find what works for you and what you're comfortable with . I myself use a heat gun, one jig at a time. JMO

i have found that using the oven before paint takes more time and make the head to hot. I just use a lighter and heat for 6 to 10 seconds. I have never had a problem.
