I know tackle warehouse has the Daiwa Laguna, Okuma Avenger, and Quantum Q-VEX. Reviews in any of these? i want to use one for my Light setup.

I'm personally a fan of the Shimano Spirex FG & RG. They also have the Syncopate. But for me it's the Quickfire II trigger system. I don't care much for 'immediate stop braking'.

The Spirex can be had for less than $50 online, and sometimes less than $40 but I don't know about shipping.

The Syncopate is available for less than $40 from walmart.

for the money the pfluger trion and the Lews laser speed spin are excellent reels.I own both with the trion being 6 years old and still going strong.the lews has a larger arbor which helps with line management. out of the two I recommended I would go with the trion only because it has held up to years of steelhead fishing.

Bingo. It's hard to believe they can sell a reel that smooth and reliable for $40.

A few members beat me to the punch, trion is a good choice for 40 bucks. I have a cardinal 101, havent used it in a few years, very smooth, but I think the drag is iffy. Trion has a good drag, they do run a bit on the heavy side.

Front drag, vs rear drag. It's easier to reach the rear drag to adjust on the fly. A little more complexity and a few more moving parts for the rear drag. It's harder to find rear drags any more.

I think the Pflueger Trion is your best bet, Stay away from anything Diawa or Shimano that is under 100 bucks, that is the only knock on those to companies.

In many cases, front drag reels have larger drag disks/washers than rear drag models. Rear drags may be easier to adjust during the fight, but you shouldn't need to adjust it more than once. Set it properly before you start fishing, and then leave it alone.

Well, on a trip to Walmart for groceries, I stopped in the clearance fishing section. I got a pflueger trion micro, and put it on a 5ft UL cherrywood, 19 for the rod 20 for the reel. Should be a fun little setup:)

you won't do better than that on a $40 setup!!! period, without taking a chance on going to jail.
