Featured Replies

im getting my first daiwa reel. looking at the AIRD model. 8 bearing, 6:3:1 ratio. not wanting to spend too much on one. does anyone know if this is a good reel? could use some good advice at this point, haha.

I wouldn't go with a Daiwa under the 100 dollar price point, there is just simply better offerings for the price.

Haven't used that particular reel, but if I were in the market I would try to pick up a used sol or fuego. Both are nice reels and can be found around $150

I have an Aird, and 10 Strikeforces, I love them, they are good for pretty much anything. Daiwa has better reels under 100$ than Abu and Shimano IMHO with an exception of the Caenan.

I don't know about the new model, but I have the previous model of the Prodigy sold by Cabela's. The reel is made for them by Daiwa. New price is $100, but they go on sale ocassionally. The old model is an excellent reel. A smooth and very solid feeling reel.

EDIT: Welcome to the forum. Lots of good articles along with tons of advice from some pretty darn nice guys. BTW, I've seen Sols for as low as $125. Matter of fact that is what I paid for mine. Might not look like new, but doesn't look bad. Also saw some HSTA's for $90 in excellent condition...if I remember correctly. That is an awesome deal.

I have an Exceler, Aggrest and a Prodigy. Very similar to the aird with aluminum frame and whimpy side covers. They do OK and work decent. But under torque the plastic side covers do flex a little. You could hang out for the new Lexa 100 and its aluminum side cover List is $139 and not available until September.

I liked the advantage HSTA, But its limited in gear ratio to 6.3 to 1. It is also being phased out. So you could get some deals very soon! That is if you don't need a power(5's) or high speed(7's) gear ratio!
