Braid On A Baitcaster?

Featured Replies

Is there any advantage/ disadvantage to using braided line on a baitcaster? Right now I have all of my baitcasters strung with 17 or 20 pound monofilament, but I have some heavier braided line that I've been considering putting on at least one of them. What do you guys think?

Braid excels in fishing heavy vegitation by slicing through the weeds. It is also very sensitive for jig fishing since it has no stretch. Some peoeple have gone all braid with a leader in certain circumstances.

I can cast a lot further with braid, and the no stretch gives me a better hook up ratio. If the water is clear i just pop on a flouro leader

I use braid on all my casting reels. Flouro leader if needed.

Like these other fellas, I also use braid. I use 50# which is 12 lb mono eq. You can cast further, you have better feel and you get better hook-ups. All around really good line. I use Power Pro but there are some other lines that have come out that might be better, not sure. Hope this helps!

Braid is great for fishing in heavy cover. Down here in FL, we have thick hydrilla and kissimmee grass. It helps to pull fish out of it. I have 2 rigs that have braid. My jig rod and my frog rod. Others have either 12# or 20# YoZuri hybrid.

Exactly...except I have 15# and 20# floro on the others.

Braid on a baitcaster is like having a heavy duty wench on the front of your truck, it's there to serve a purpose, heavy duty fishing requires heavy duty equiptment.

On the other hand, it has multiple applications, it's great for top water, and for vertical fishing as well.

Jig & Frog Rods have 30lb & 50lb Braid.

Topwater, Spinnerbait, & Crankbait Rods have 12lb - 15lb Mono.

Worm Rods have 15lb Fluoro.

I use braid on all my casting reels. Flouro leader if needed.

X2 I do the same thing and it works great.

My wench served her purpose so well I decided to marry her.
