2 Cycle Oil For Gas

Featured Replies

Is the oil used in lawn mowers/trimmers correct for use in a 2 cycle outboard motor?

Is it worthwhile to use Sea Foam? TIA

No, you should use an outboard motor oil rated TCW-3

Yes, use Seafoam all the time- 1 oz per gallon of gas.

There are also different types of outboard oil. Petroleum based(least expensive) Petroleum/Synthetic(mid range) Full synthetic(most expensive). I use either the petroleum or half and half depending on whats on sale. Either Penzoil, Wally world brand, Cabelas brand or BPS brand. The Quicksilver oil is a little pricier than the ones I've mentioned. As far as I can tell I haven't experienced any ill effects in the last 9 years in my Merc. using the non Merc products.

Do not use the oil for air cooled 2 cycles in a water cooled engine and don't use the oil for water cooled engines in air cooled engines. Totally different temp ranges the oils are designed operate in.
