New Boat -- Best Places To Launch In Northern Virginia?

Featured Replies

Finally... after years of thinking about it, I picked up my new bass boat, which was an anniversary present from my WONDERFUL wife. Nothing too fancy, but for a first bass boat, I'm pretty happy... I picked up a Tracker 175 TXW with the 60HP fourstroke. So, now I just have to find some places to take it. Lake Anna was my first stop (on the way back from BPS), and I've launched from the Occoquan Regional Park a couple of times now as well.

Where are the NOVA folks' favorite places to put in? Anyone care to share their thoughts on the best places to boat? I've been a kayak fisherman for the last few years, and I know many of the lakes around here are 9.9HP or electric only, so I assume that Lake Anna and Smith Mountain are the only lakes for full sized boats, so I guess I should focus on the Potomac and its tributaries? Any suggestions... I'm in Northern Fairfax county, and would prefer not to drive 2.5 hours to one-fish Anna every weekend.

I could really use some ideas... I want to try some new spots before winter gets here!

pohick, gravelly point, belle haven, leesylvania. Depends on where you want to fish.

Sorry... should have been clearer in my first post. I know where most of the launch points are, but I'm not sure which ones are the best places to put in for bass fishing this time of year. Is one of these spots better for late summer / early fall bass fishing? Also, any lakes in decent driving distance other than Anna and SML that allow full-sized bass boats?

If you want to run the big motor then yes, you know of all the places to go. If you want good fishing opportunities, look at some of the smaller places you can put your boat in but may be limited to TM only.

You live close to one of the best places in the country to bass fish in Summer. POTOMAC.

Learn how to fish tidal waters and use common sense as to what part to launch from and fish.

Just because you got a new bass boat ( congrats by the way !! ) does not mean you should pass up the opportunities you have that you can still use the TM on, There are a lot of places that I can "launch" my bass boat from around here that only allow TM's.

As Wayne P. stated the Potomac is a wonderful source for you, I have fished it a few times with some friends but have never had my boat there yet, it's just a touch too far for a day trip, Anna is almost 2 hrs from me already and a place I spent a lot of my time, i hope you enjoyed it as much as I do when I go.

You have a good girl to help you get a boat congrats on both, I hope you get a lot of years of service from the boat and have a ton of fun with both !!!

Good luck and be safe !!!
