Could someone direct me to a good spray solvent that I could use to clean the bearing attached to the spool shaft on my PQ.

I use non chloronated brake clean. Even on regular bearings after they are soaked in acetone, it helps blow out the extra stuff.

X2... I like the CRC brand, it's been my favorite for 30 years.

Im guessing you want to clean the bearing in place. It's not hard to remove the spool pin, and have the bearing free to soak properly.

But, if you want to do it that way, and I've done it often enough, carb cleaner or brake cleaner will do nicely. One down side is you may get some solvent on the line. If you do, you will need to respool.

Another method is to fill a cap from a plastic bottle with acetone or lighter fluid and stand the spool in it to soak. Use a cap from a small bottle so only the bearing is soaking.

The reel down side is it is very difficult to remove the side shields from the bearing while it is still attached to the spool. And, if you get one off, it's even harder to get it back on.

Trichloroethylene which is a chlorinated solvent. Non-flammable, Non-conductive,dries fast and leaves no residue. is an excellent solvent for reels. Some brake cleaners contain Tric but many do not, as chlorinated products are regulated in some states. (i.e Ca.) Some brake cleaner contain product I would not want to use on my reels or guns. Also be careful with any solvent around plastics.

Carb or brake cleaner will both work. Unless the PQ changed recently it has a one piece spool shaft and would require a deep jar to soak in place. The spool pins are not hard to remove but are best done with a specialized or fabricated tool. Bend that pin or dent the spool rim and you're out $30 +/-.

I used to work in the ink industry for years. Best universal solvent is MEK (methylethylketone). Toluene & Trichloroethylene are good ones too. The latter was/is used as dry cleaning fluid and I think Toluene is a component of gasoline.

Gumout brand carb cleaner is great stuff for this it has some MEK in it or at least it used to, check the can. Don't get the cheap carb cleaner it can be alcohol based.

MEK is nasty stuff don't get it on anything else. Last I checked it was also used (those EPA regs you know) straight as plastic toy model glue as it will dissolve the plastic so you can stick the pieces together.

I use MEK based plastic weld for modeling styrene products, I really can't stress to keep it away from styrene based plastics. Though I've spilled it all over my wood table and carpet and there's no evidence that it happened

I use a cap from a fine Sharpie pen with a metal washer glued to the bottom so it stands straight up and is stable. Fill with lighter fluid, put the spool shaft in it so the bearing is covered, let it soak, blow dry and you are ready to go. The bearing fits inside the Sharpie cap perfectly and the line stays dry.
