Dessicant Packets?

Featured Replies

Do any of you guys use dessicant packets to help protect against rust? I usually open up all my plano 3700's after fishing, but the one time I don't, I have found some rust on some strike king diamond shads. I actually use flambeau Z-rust most times, but have still occasionally found rust.

Wondering if the dessicant packets could be used to help absorb moisture and prevent rust?

I don't do this but I've heard of some fisherman putting some rice in a part of a nylon stocking and tying it up and placing it in their rod lockers in their boats to keep moisture out of their reels.I heard u can do this with fish finders that have moisture in the displays. The rice draws the moisture out. May be worth a shot with tackle.

The rice trick has worked for people I know that have gotten cellphones wet. So it should work on other electronics

That's why my vote goes to the rice! Plus you aren't putting poison around your lures, or yourself.

ive used those packs for the longest. as long as you dont eat them, they work fine. havnt found any rust on anything in the boxes.

I do sometimes get very hungry when fishing, but I think I will be able to prevent myself from chowing down on a dessicant packet :tongue8:

Yes, I put them in my CBait boxes. Seems to work OK.

Squertz and Dave P, where do you guys purchase the dessicant packets? What size? Thanks for any help.

Feebay is where I usually buy them. There are a ton of sizes...I usually get the ones that go a few inches x a few inches. They also sell reusable ones that can be dried in the oven.

I place them in all of my storage bins.

I get them from work. Whenever we get some shirts in I grab em. Shoes too.

My boxes are pretty small like 3500 size so the tiny ones work well for me. I didn't know people actually sold them lol.

I just acquire them here and there when you buy stuff always check the package/box. A lot of stuff comes with them.
