Jigs With Rattles

Featured Replies

How important is it for you guys to use jigs with rattles? Do you have just as much success with either? Or is there certain situations that call for rattles? I am trying to build up my tacklebox and jigs without are far cheaper. I bougt one yesterday and already lost it this morning. I figure, with hiw jigs are used, i will probably lose quite a few to hang ups so i don't want to spend 4 bucks on each.

I personally haven't noticed a difference using jigs with rattles. If anything, get some worm rattles and stick them in your trailer. Probably be cheaper in the long run.

I'll have to check them out. Thanks.

I use the rattles in muddy water.

I don't remember when was the last time I used a jig with a rattle. I seem to catch my share of jig fish without them rattles anyway.

I also don't remember when was the last time I spent $4 on one single jig. $2-ish is pretty much the limit for me per jig. Or just maybe I'm a cheapo.

Maybe $4 was an exaggeration, but the ones with rattles are close to it, whereas the ones without are easily less than $2. I, too, am a cheapo and I lose a lot of baits.

Same with me. Fish jigs without rattles and tend to fish "inexpensive" jigs.

Booyah Baby Boo gets tied on 99% of the time.

I prefer my jigs with rattles...

I try and order all my jigs with them. The ones that don't come with them, I add them to. I have some really dirty waters here in Central Oklahoma so anything I can do to give me that edge I do.

Rattle helps in stain water; I have actually dropped a Jig without rattles. Then pitched a Jig with rattles to the exact same spot, but it is muddy water. I couldn’t tell any difference when fishing clear lakes, so it depends on where you fish.

so it depends on where you fish.

I would love to be able to stick with one place, but I don't yet have one solid spot to call my own. So far I have 3 places that are good (for me, in that I have actually caught fish): a crystal clear lake that is deep as all get out (old rock quarry), a dirty, fast moving river with some ok SMB, and a small, dirty and shallow lake that is only a few minutes away from home and is somewhere I can easily go after work. It looks like I need a consortum of jigs/lures.

Swim jigs without, flippin', pitching, skipping, with.
