Looking For A Rod To Go With Penn Reel. Humm...choices Choices!

Featured Replies

Hey guys, i'm new to this place. :) need some opinions...

I came across a Penn Fierce 5000 spin reel, but I have no rod. I've been looking around a lot and I just seem more confused on making a decision. :dazed-7: My boyfriend and I do a lot of freshwater fishing(channel cat, small/large mouth bass) but we also do some inshore salt water fishing, so i'll need something to handle flounder, sheephead and reds. we fish off the bank, docks and he goes out in a boat a lot for channel cat. Not looking for anything to crazy expensive, I don't want to go over $130 bucks. Need a light but very strong rod.

- What do you guys like??? Any and all opinions appreciated. Thanks

Have you bought the reel yet? The fierce is ok, but a 5000 series reel is a bit heavy for repetitive cast and retrieve, but would be fine for bait fishing. There are a number of choices less than your budget that would work well, but I would suggest a rod that can handle 1.5 - 2 oz lure weight, in a med hvy. Look at a Star stellar lite, $99, or a shimano teramer, about 120, for starters.

I didn't buy it, It was given to me so I figured I might as well put it on something and use it. :) I really appreciate the reply. Thanks, and yes, there are so many out there. The reason I put $130 is because I can get pretty good deals through the job I work at and the dealers they buy from.
