What Line For My New Setup?

Featured Replies

Just purchased a 7' Med Veritas Micro rod and a Shimano Citaca 200G7 and am awaiting its arrival in the next couple days while contemplating what line to spool it up with. I plan to use it for 1/4-1/2oz. jigs and t-rigs and I might throw a few spinnerbaits with it if need be. What line would you recommend? I fish moderate cover, usually weeds and some bullrushes. I was thinking 12-15 lb. fluorocarbon but have never used it for mainline and don't know exactly what to expect. What would you suggest?

12 lb Yo Zuri. I use it for everything you just mentioned and its very easy to manage on your reel.

After hearing all the hype on yozuri hybrid. I deffinatly plan on trying some of that next year. That many people cant be wrong.

I prefer #15 seaguar invisix flouro for that setup

I would say 12lb would be a good sized line. Depends on how much you want to spend and what qualities you want? Invisix or abrasix would be good and very castable lines. Lines like tatsu, sunline shooter, and toray upgrade will be much more sensitive but also a bit stiffer.

If you want a cheaper alternative yozuri hybrid or Trilene XL are solid lines.

I use Daiwa Samurai braid mainline with leader for jigs 100% of the time. 30 lb for spinning, 55 lb for casting,

Me too. I also like 12lb invizx

30-50# braid. I like Power Pro or Samurai with a flouro or mono leader.

12-15# YoZuri would be perfect. It will give you all the strength and abrasion resistance you will ever need. I dont even care for any other since I started using this stuff.

I'd go 30 or 40 lbs braid with a 15 lbs fluro leader.
