d**n that is a really really good price!!! I am in the process of buying one now off TT for $250. It's used but in mint condition. Wish I would have found this post sooner, would have definitely ordered at least one from gander. Mike D

Pflueger Patriarch XT - Love that reel!!! Probably why I own 4 of them. A close second are my tuned Curado 100D's. Mike D

How Much Difference In These 2 Rods?
It will load easier but the XF rod won't load as much as the regular fast action.Hope this helps. Mike D

Filppin & Pitchin Rod?
As an update to my previous post - I recently picked up a Megabass Orochi X4 Destruction rod. Not sure what I will be using it for but it is rated anywhere from 3/8 to 3 1/4 ounces so I guess pretty much anything. Mike D

How Much Difference In These 2 Rods?
Not much difference at all. Actually the only real difference is going to be in the tip of the rod. The extra fast is IMO just a lighter tip (very flexible, and loads very easily) compared to say an AG or a Daiwa where there extra fast tips are much more stiff with minimal flex. Mike D

Veritas Uncertainty
I have 3 veritas rods (7 MH, 7MMF, and a 76MHF) none of them have any type of "reel seat problem". The only thing that I do is wrap a little piece of duck tape around the front of the reel foot to avoid the screw down nut from scratching the reel. I am very careful when it comes to my fishing gear so I like to try and keep my gear in the best condition possible. I also agree with most answers on this thread, the AG rods are generally 1 power heavier than advertised, but to me I am used to their rating so I can adjust my purchases depending on what it is that I am actually looking for. The rating system is comparable to St. Croix or Daiwa if that is any help to you. Mike D

Tried The New Vendetta?
Just to clear up some info that was provided in the video review. The reel seat is not an ACS but a custom Abu designed extreme exposure reel seat. And the guides are not Aluminum Oxide but are Stainless steel guides with Zirconium inserts instead. The information was taken from the AG website... Mike D

Need Help With Picking A Rod
In that price range - for what you are looking for I'd take a look at the Fenwick Smallmouth bass rods. Specifically the 6'10" MH MF (medium heavy power and Moderate fast taper). I bought one this past summer and it is phenomenally light but has great backbone with a nice tip for spinnerbaits and even soft swimbaits. I used it more for soft swimbaits personally but I did toss spinners on it as well and found it to be well suited for both. Mike D

Abu Garcia Rod Reviews
There is nothing wrong with AG rods, but the fast and extra fast tapers tend to lean on the stiff side (not much flex in the tip). However any of the Moderate action rods are very well suited for crankbaits. If it were me I would take a vendetta hands down over the vengeance. I would take a serious look at VNTC70-5 model. It is a 7 foot rod rated from 1/4 to 5/8 and has a moderate fast action. It will be soft enough for treble hook baits as well as single hook texas rigged plastics as well. Just my 2 cents Mike D

Pitching Rod Suggestions ?
I rarely flip at all but i pitch like a machine. When starting out it is easier to pitch with a shorter rod and then move up in length as you become more comfortable with the technique. I started out with a 6'6' casting rod and now i am able to pitch perfectly well with my 7'6' veritas rod. Haven't tried the 7'11' yet but might move up to that one one day (maybe). mike d

Weightless Senko Rod
2 rods that come to mind are the Fenwick smallmoth casting rod 6'10" MF and if more power is needed due to cover the 7' MHF veritas would work well to. Mike D

8 Inch Hudds And Revo Winch
I haven't tried the Gen 3s yet, but I know for a fact that the Gen 2 Winch is built like a TANK on STEROIDS. You should not have any problems throwing an 8 inch hudd on that reel. mike d
