Live Target Lures For Peacock

Bit on the expensive side for me catching Florida peas. If you want to use Live Target lures I'm assuming you are fishing open water, any hard jerkbait, spoon, top water lure, crappie jigs (they love them) will work just fine for Florida peacocks, your technique may be more important than the actual lure. If I were fishing for them in the Amazon, yes I would use a better quality lure, the difference is night and day between Florida and South American peacocks. They put up a nice fight for their size, but on average don't run too big down here, my best is somewhere around 6#, nice fight but certainly not a world beater.

I agree with SirSnookalot. Kristo, LiveTarget lures are great. I love their frogs. However, these lures are pretty expensive and with the amount of bank fishing you do, one bad cast or you get hung deep, game over. There are cheaper lures IMO that you can use and if you lose them they will not hurt the bank or your heart.

thanks guys, yea I'm gonna buy a couple rapala lures any soft swim baits you guys suggest?

or some storm kickin minnows

They are expensive... but every fish in the lake will hit their 1/2 oz. lipless cranks. They are the cranks I use 95% of the time now.

When you are dealing with an aggressive species like peacocks technique and location far outweigh the lure choice. I've pretty much cut xraps from my arsenal, @ $9 a pop I can catch as many on a 4 dollar lure. I was out the other day using an xrap, reel it in and the lip was broken off, it was old lure. I just used the xrap as a twitchbait and I still caught fish. IMO many newbies to fishing rely too much on that perfect lure, rod, reel, line, etc, than just knowing how to fish.

i agree.

almost all of my peacock have been caught on either fluke jr's or spook jr's. if they are active , they will bite these two baits.

i tried doing the xrap thing and couldnt buy a bite with those. ill stick to my tried and true techniques.

Nice I have some super fluke jrs how do you fishing for peacock? Do you let it sink and twitch or you burn it? Or fish it top water

all of the above. the fluke can be fish a ton of different ways. my most productive would be to twitch it fast then kill it right in front of their face. you will have to adjust your speed to see what they want that day but usually faster seems to work.

ive caught my PB LMB and peacock on the fluke jr t-rigged weightless. those mayan cichlids will take them too. its probably my favorite soft plastic next to roboworms.
