Va. Meet And Greet 2013 !!!!

Featured Replies

Or we could fish a body of water that allows only trolling motors or 9.9's and us guys with the big motors can use our trolling motors to get around.

We need a place with nice accommodations like a state park or motels since some of us don't have campers and I quit camping after I got out of the Army.

Sam, the list of lakes/ponds I posted covers a wide variety of water so there would be something for everyone. Like NF said we need to pick a top five to start with; but we could also use the list for one-on-one meets too.

For those of us with larger boats with fixed engines VA requires a fuel line cut-off valve while on electric only lakes; it's not a big deal, but something we need to know before launching.

BB50, we would love to have you and your family there as well, it will be in the fall of 2013, you have plenty of time to make plans, cast your vote and try to get it in your area, the most votes for a location listed will be where the next one will happen.

We on the other hand do not have as much time, any reservations that must be made ahead of time must be made at least 3 months in advance, so knowing where the next one is going to be is important, please make sure you cast your vote and we hope to see you there !!!

Zoff, thanx for the vote !!!

I have not voted yet, the reason being is in the event of a tie, I will cast my vote as well at that time, I will put the tieing places in a drawing and draw one from random, so as you stated I am coming as well no matter where it ends up, I look forward to seeing you again soon !!

As of now we are in a 4 way tie, Potomac, Chick River, SML, and Claytor, all of them are great choices and we are looking forward to seeing where this will finally end up.

You may need to do a two stage vote, where we pick our first choice of the final 4 or 5.

It appears you may have a question or two looking at your comment, do you have any?

It still looks like we have a lot of intrest in a good part of Va, From North to mid state Va.

I am really looking forward to seeing one of these places for the first time, honestly the Potomac has a lot of interest for me and the Chick River does as well, I am up for any of the places on the poll, regaurdless, if the opportunity presents itself I would not mind being able to fish any of these places with a couple/few of you guys throughout the upcoming year.

Even though you guys are Southerners, I would enjoy having you come up anytime you can make it, and we northerners will forgo the need for passports on your part.

We can do a day trip, or a weekend for you worker-bees, or some days during the week for you retirees. If your interested PM me and we can discuss details.

You'll need a tidal Potomac license, and if you would like to fish within the Nations Capitol you'll also need a D.C. license.

There's something special about fishing DC, on one side you have National Airport with its busy jets, on the other you have the National Monuments, you may even get to see Homeland Security pulling some training excise where they run around on the water like a bunch of kids playing Cowboys & Indians.

But beware, I'm not a pro fishing guide, I have days where I can't buy a bite, then I have other days where the Striper's won't leave me alone.

Just let me know what you can fit into your schedule and we'll work something out.

Oh my goodness, you did not just go there !!! I hope you are up for this LOL !!!

First of all, Passports, REALLY??? are ya'll that special that we need passports?? you think you are from another country or something?

He## we will let you down here for free, after all we like a good laugh from time to time, and a little target practice always comes in handy...LOL !!

I'm in ashburn, about 15 minutes from leesburg. Id love to go if this will be on the Potomac. :) no need for me to get a license, I'm 15 :)

We would love to have you there !!!

Now this will not be untill fall of next year, will you still be 15 by then?, another note, we would prefer that you get your parents permission or bring a parent with you to have some fun, I can see that you are fairly new to the forum as well, welcome!!

Knowing that you are new here, did you by chance get to read what we did with the last one?

Yeah well of course I have to have a parent with me. How else would I get there? :P and no I won't be 15, but ill get a temporary licensce. There's not need to buy one around here, its just small drainponds and a few offshoots of the potomac. Not like anyones gonna check my school ID to make sure I'm under 16 because I don't have a licensce. I'm probably the least of there worries. I doubt many of the people you see fishing with target rods and taking home a bucket of bluegill have a licensce if you know what I mean. ;)

YES ! :respect-059: I'm glad to see that old line still gets a rise out of you VA guys.... LOL That line is only about 45 years old with me and I got it from a co-worker back around 1968 - 70. :laugh5:

My VA co-workers would ask me for my pass port when I worked in VA, I would tell them I'd show it to them if'n they could read; they threatened to blow the WW bridge to keep me out of the state :cry3: and my response was they would sit idle all day cause there wouldn't be anyone to show them what to do......

Well that's what I'm here for - laughs - if not, I might as well head on down to the senior center and play cards with the old folk. As for target practice, I'm not worried, I'd probably be safer in front of your gun than driving on N. VA roads. :dazed-7:

BTW, I have VA blood in me too, my Mom was born in Staunton.... :Idontknow:

You guys still get dizzy when you look up north for too long???

Keep ramp fees in mind.

At Hope Springs at Aquia Creek on the Potomac the cost is $20 a boat.

At Popular Springs on Gaston it is free.

At SML you can put in at the state park or one of the motels with a ramp for free if they will allow us to launch for free.

Can you all fill us in on the ramp fees at the other candidates?

SML has about 4 free ramps.

Smallwood State Park (Sweden Point Marina) is $10.00 with 6 ramps and ample parking. I believe I was told it's free if your an overnight guest, I'll double check this.

There is a free ramp further up the Mattawoman Creek which is about 15-20 min from the park but it's only one ramp and parking is limited; but it's a great place to launch from if your interested in the upper creek, and have a small boat or a yak.

The Marshall Hall Boat Ramp is a good half hour from the park and has two free ramps with ample free parking; and it's closer to DC if that is a goal. This ramp is open on the main river and subject to winds and river currents.

Traveler, remember that we may want to blast off on the Virginia side of the Potomac due to travel issues.

Also, we will need the special DC fishing license if we fish on the north side of the WW Bridge.

However, the Potomac is an outstanding fisheries and we could give a booby prize to the guy who catches the most snakeheads.

I still think a more central location would do better as we have a lot of nonboaters and we need boaters for the event to continue its success.

Buggs Island, Lake Gaston, Lake Chesdin, Potomac, Chick River, Chick Lake, James River, Briery Creek, Sandy Creek, SML, Moomaw are all possibilities.

Isn't it great to have so many choices????
