Opinions On Dropping From A 20Ft Boat To Smaller?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I have sort of a dilemma, I got college bass coming up and as of right now I am boat less. I had 7k saved up and Ive been trying to find what I want which is atleast a 20ft with a 200hp because that's what I'm used to from my dads. My question should I just settle and go smaller and if I do how different is it gonna be?

Thanks,

Austin

I have a 21' Bullet and an 18' Xpress. I prefer the Xpress for tournament fishing. Everything is close, and easy to get at. The Bullet is fun, and the front deck is huge, but I haven't settled into to it for tourneys.

At one point I went from a 20 ft Skeeter to a 18.5 ft Ranger. I found it easier to get around standing timber and in between boat docks, basically the fishability was just as good if not better in some cases. One downfall is the ride, if you fish a lot of big water the smaller boat is going to beat you up more. I didn't regret my desicion at all.

Bingo. This is the key, if you fish big lakes with big waves, wait for a bigger boat. Otherwise, you can find a smaller boat that is nicer and with better fishability IMO.
