You can get an Abu Garcia Veritas micro or winch model on walmart.com for $70 right now. It's light and very sensitive. A steal for that price.

I have the crankbait rod. If I broke it tomorrow, I would order another one tomorrow night.

I've had a 723C Medium Heavy Extra fast Powell Diesel 7'2" rod now for a couple of weeks and have fished with it 3 or 4 times. Am trying it out as a PITCHING rod for jigs and Rage Craws, mostly.

So far, I am well pleased. It seems like this would also make a good crankbait rod.....may try that in the future.

I'd really rather a CORK handle, but the foam one is fine....no problems.

Although I like it, I really can't say that this particular one is anything "special." Other than it's a great buy.

Of course, the 3 other rods on the deck of my boat are a G.Loomis, St. Croix Legend Tournament, and a Dobyns Champion Extreme. It would be unfair to compare the low budget Diesel to such rods. But, all these rods are light duty for casting finesse and plastics and small crankbaits.

The Diesel is a much more stout rod. And much better for pitching. Also I can see it for a frog rod.

I own a 723 MH/XF as well, and for 69.99, that rod is a gem. They are right about Walmart carrying micro guide Veritas rods for 70.00 also. They are also alright rods, just not my personal preference. I use my diesel for hollow body frogs and light pitching duty and it works great.

I just sold my 3 Veritas rods and quickly upgraded my arsenal so I now own all 4 rods in the Powell Diesel lineup.. I love everyone of them as the cranking rod is perfect for the application and the spinning rods perfect for throwing weightless senkos.. Do they match up to my Powell Max rods and Endurance rods? No. But they are great for applications that I don't use as often..

^^^^^ Good job Diggy!

Diggie's video he posted is consistent with reviews that I have read. Their actions are not as fast as other Powell's offerings. For example, an extra fast action on a powell max is faster than an XF on a Powell Diesel. Besides that, I have only heard good things and I wouldn't let the no warranty thing scare you. Replacing a $70 rod through warranty is pointless once you encounter the time and money spent dealing with Customer Service. Shipping the broken rod, getting it shipped back, etc.
