Yup. Dont worry about the drag star being plastic, the Curado 50E is plastic too, besides, are you really gonna break a drag star?

When will Shimano go with the bent handle and star like Abu? I played with a Chronarch today at BPS and they are smooth and very nice, but I just don't like the handle. They only had a righty model out and I use a lefty so it felt extra awkward to me.

Why would Shimano want to be like every other company out there? Shimano is not made by a mass production company. They are a proven company. I personally dont feel any advantage to the bent handles, the SX I had didnt feel any better to me.

Your posting is comedic....The way you can spin a cheap plastic part into something durable that wont break and a strong metal/carbon ergonomic handle into mass produced trash. Hilarious

@TNBassin...I dont thing they will ever change the design, but either way, the handle can be replaced with something more favorable if you wish, something that suites your fishing style best.

I have never broken a Shimano drag star. The need for a metal one is pointless. Besides the fact that its not cheap thin plastic either. If having it be metal makes you sleep better at night.

You win, I tap out. I'm not even getting into an dirt shoveling match about reels because I could really care less what anyone fishes with,,,Im fine using graphite/plasticreels...its just a matter of logic and integrity in what is said to people..

The green Curado B had a plastic drag star. I've serviced a lot of them, and never saw a broken drag star. I have seen stamped steel drag stars break, though. And cast aluminum as well.

probably never. shimano goes their own way...in fact, it's almost as if shimano goes waaaay out of their way to avoid anything daiwa innovated (e.g., inline thumb bars, swept handles) or was involved with early on (e.g., magnetic brakes). regardless, i have shimanos with straight handles and plenty of other reels with swept handles and i'd be hard pressed to notice the difference in feel...they definitely look cooler though

as for the discussion on the plastic vs. metal drag stars, i've never had a plastic one break on me either but the metal ones definitely feel better.
