I fish the ABA and FLW here in IL and have to say both have been great for my first year. The FLW can be or will be a little more expensive or at least it was for me because you have to be at the meeting the day before the event which in most cases requires getting a room. You also have to try to find a boater to link with to guarantee your spot in each event and you can do that by posting on the FLW site. You strictly fish from the back of the boat in the FLW also. The purses are smaller on the co-angler side but the boaters have usually pre fished before the event so you will be fishing their spots for the event. Sure you can check the FLW site for the division you plan to fish to see what previous co-anglers winning weights were and gain info that way as well.

well thanks for the info but the only thing that was a bit confusing was finding a boater what do u mean it isnt a draw?

My understanding is its still a draw but if you enter with a boater you will get priority to fish over the coangler who enters alone. Less likely to get put on a waiting list. I'm gonna be fishing as a coangler this year for first time. Still looking for a boater to get matched with. Really don't like the way they do that.

It's a draw but it's a priority draw and co-anglers the sign up with a boater get first priority and pretty much avoid the waiting list and get your confirmation on entry much sooner.

I think the purpose of the finding a boater to link with is to have the same amount of boaters and co anglers that way no one is left out of the tournament. If you sign up early enough you never have to worry about making it in. But if you wait til the last week or so, there is a good chance you will not make it in the tournament. That is the way it has been in the division I fish. Most of the time you can get hooked up with a boater to sign up with that way you are guaranteed.

I've fished FLW as a co for the last two years and didn't have a guaranteed boater. The key to it is to register early in January for the whole year and it will help in priority as well but going to a event you can ask the director and he will recommend you someone that might need a pairing partner or ask everyone at the registration meeting. If looking at the Ozark division for BFL the coordinator is Anthony Wright and he can be looked up on FLW.com.

Hope this helps!
