Costa 580

Featured Replies

I'm gonna buy a new pair of costa's with the 580 lenses. I'm trying to decide which would be the better all around lense color between green mirror and silver mirror. I really like the looks of the green mirrors, but I don't want to base my decision solely on aesthetics. Will the green mirror lenses make it harder for me to see in low light conditions compared to the silver mirror?

The mirrored lenses transmits about 8-10% less light than the non-mirrored lenses.  If you're worried about visibility in low-light conditions, I would suggest the copper lens.

What about on those bright sunny days? Will the copper lenses suffice?

I read a post recently where someone at Costa recommended the Silver Mirror for all around freshwater.  I guess silver mirror is a good compromise between Green Mirror and Copper if you're having a hard time deciding.  Any way you go, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I don't use the copper lenses, but my current lenses (amber 400) do very well in all light conditions.  They have been lifesavers over the last couple of months when working outside (brightness due to snow cover).

If I were going to have two sets of CDM's, one would be with a copper or amber lens and the other would most likely be green or silver mirror (if memory serves, the silver mirror has a copper base).

When I purchased my current glasses, it came down to either the Amber 400 or the Green Mirror 580.  I opted for the Amber 400 due to the small percentage of increased light transmittance.

Your best bet (if possible) is to visit a good dealer and try on as many pairs as possible.  I realize that may not be possible in many areas due to a lack of good stocking dealers.  I got lucky in that I found a small shop in Ocracoke, NC.  Wasn't even planning on purchasing and ended up walking out with two pairs of glasses.  That guy may have been the best, most through salesman I've ever dealt with.  I would honestly drive 11 hours again if I was going to buy another set of glasses.

My local Cabela's had some Costa's and I was able to try a few on the last time I was there. the Brine's felt pretty good but looked just a bit too small. Im hoping that the Zane's will be a little bigger and I am planning on ordering them, although I never actually got to try them on (please let me know if this is not the case). It seems that everyone carries the Fathom's, but they are way too small for my head. I think I will go with the silver mirror lenses as I have also heard they are a good all around lense for freshwater.

What size of hat do you wear?

I wear a 7 3/4 and the Man O War was pretty much the only frame that would fit my mega-melon.

My hat size is 7&1/4, but I have a pretty round face/head. I'm pretty sure they will fit, I just hope they look a little better than the Brines, which were a little snug and looked a little small.
