did you happen to put it back in break in mode? it will double oil if you did. run 87 octane. 91 doesnt burn hot enough and will lead to more carbon buildup around the rings.- Anything Else I Should Know About My New To Me Dfi Optimax
2 words... smartcraft guage. the above posters are correct. warm that baby up. the thermostats are no longer controlling the temp when you blast off, its the poppet valve. If its not warm when you blast it off, it will cold seize in no time. run 87 octane, always run merury dfi oil and quikleen... religiously, check compressor belt condition and tightness, good thing to check the compressor strainer in the lower port side of the block. If you fish shallow and grassy, the strainer will become clogged at some point and starve the compressor of cooling water, upgrade all fuel hoses and check the fuel filter in the vst. other than that, thats about it. run it good and hard before you put it up. these motors run pretty cool as it is and if you idle a bunch or loaf around a bunch carbon buildup becomes an issue. the quikleen and dfi oil will help prevent this. only run the plugs that are meant for it.- Tolling Motor Shaft Lenght ??

You'll like that z7 much better especially if it has an opti!- Skeeter Vs Nitro
I had that same year 882 and it wS a great boat. Ran around 62 and rode pretty good for an 18 foot boat. I got mine 4 yrs ago for $9400 in good shape so the one you're looking at is overpriced in my opinion . I'd go for the skeeter if I were you in this situation. That xr6 is one hell of a motor though. Thirsty too if you really run it hard- Tolling Motor Shaft Lenght ??
- What Am I Doing Wrong???
Today I lost the third double digit fish on a hollow body frog in a year. I'm getting a good hook set and less than ten feet from the boat she spits it. This is the most frustrating thing ever. My reel is a curado dhsv, rod is a 7'6" allstar flipping rod, line is 70# daiwa samurai braid. Do I need a softer rod,- Shimano Gear Set Replacement
ok gentlemen, I've replaced 6 gearsets over the last few days and they beel brand new or better. finding these gearsets has been like finding needles in haystacks. my question is, how long should these reels keep this new feeling? 4 reels were for bottom contact and 2 were for winding baits, traps etc. I understand that the winding bait reels will see much more wear and tear. thank you all so far for all of your help!- Shimano Gear Set Replacement
Both reps said depending on use, gear sets and drag washers could need replacing yearly. That should've been quoted. I will record the next conversation with them- Shimano Gear Set Replacement
RM or DVT I'm gonna send you a reel that needs it and you tell me what you think. Ill gladly pay for your opinion. Please pm me a shipping address and if I can do without 2, ill send you one each- Shimano Gear Set Replacement
I should mention that a few are used with heavy action rods and 20 lb fluoro or 65 lb braid. maybe this type of strain is causing a little bit of flex in the side plates causing a misalignment of the gears.- Shimano Gear Set Replacement
actually more than one rep said that this type of maintenance was normal- Shimano Gear Set Replacement
this is exactly what I'm talking about! thanks for the reply broseph!- Shimano Gear Set Replacement
great reply. yes mine do feel back to new for a while after cleaning. I just can't help but to compare them to my b's and calcuttas smoothness which are at way further cleaning intervals than the curado e's. but after several months they are back to the gearish retrieve.- Shimano Gear Set Replacement
yeas I'm speaking strictly of retrieval smoothness. it does not affect the operation of the reel at all. I was just surprised that shimano said that this type of maintenance was perfectly normal. it does feel like the rigs that I use for higher resistance lures gets the feeling a little more than flipping and bottom contact lures. But, my curado b5 that I've used for deep cranks for nearly 15 years or so doesn't feel rough at all. as for chemincals, I spray the drive and pinion gear with reel klean and brush them with a tooth brush. for grease, I use shimano star drag grease which bantam 1 said was perfect for. I have a 200 e5 that I use for square bills and shallow to medium cranks and it seems to get it the worst. I'm confident in my ability to thouroughly clean and re lube these reels so I know it's not a matter of re assembly. as a matter of fact, I sent 2 that had never been opened into shimano to be cleaned/relubed free of charge and they came back the same way. I called southwest parts to order a few gearsets and asked them if a different alloy was being used and they said absolutely that they're selling 3 times as many gearsets as before. back on the 50 that I replaced with a core gear set, this little thing is absolutely amazing and feels like it should. and let me be clear on the interval. some are yearly or maybe 16-18 months. that's still too often in my opinion. again its not a loud geary sound but you can definately feel it. it's not keeping it's initial smoothness. and like some of you say, your's have gotten better with age. maybe i should just suck it up and fish them. but it's agravating for a rig that I use for traps and chuck and wind lures to feel that way. I wish some of you could feel what I'm talking about. thanks for all of the replies. this is truly a wonderful community of fishermen that we have. Colt Manning- Shimano Gear Set Replacement
I have been having to replace the gear sets in my curado/chronarch e's on just about yearly intervals due to the retrieve getting rough and geary feeling. I called shimano today and they said that was normal... that's hogwash imho. I have curado b's and calcuttas that I've had since i was a teenager (33 now) that feel the same or better than when new. I'm a weekend angler with a few afternoon trips during the week. have they gone to a different alloy? I clean and re-lube every 3 months and take extremely good care of my gear and I always back off on the drag when i'm not using them. I've got 12 curado e's and 4 chronarch's so this is getting expensive. it's especially annoying on chuck and wind rigs but I can deal with it on bottom contact rigs. I have a curado 50 e that got really noisy on the retrieve and replaced that gearset with a core 50 7:1 set. now the core 50 drive gear is aluminum and this set up has proven to last so far and that little rig gets some serious use. maybe that supports the idea that maybe they're using a softer alloy now. anybody experiencing this. does anybody know it these will have the micro set gears?- Pulled The Trigger
today I pulled the trigger on my first personal bass boat! a 2006 tr196 with a 200 opti. I've been fishing out of my pa in laws nitro nx882 and am very comfortable with that boat. I love this triton, although it gets hairy after 65! Is there anything I should pay special attention to when servicing the opti. all I ever did to the xr6 was replace the water pump impeller and change the lower unit oil. What about warm up? I'm amazed at how easy the opti cranks compared to the xr6 and it growls!!!- Curado 200 B
thanks avery and RM! this is exactly what I was looking for- Curado 200 B
i have 8 of these jewels that I can't bring myself to get rid of. I think they perform better today than when new. i would love to speed a few of them up. Maybe make a few of them 6:1 and a few 7:1. Does anyone know if gearsets from other shimano reels will work in these. I'm sure some of the more recent sets won't work because they are the HEG sets. Shimano doesn't offer me any help. I had 2 of them that were 3.8 that i switched to 5;1.- Shimano Bantam Curado: Is It Worth It?
earlier this year, an older man that I fish with gave me 3 brand new in box bantam curado's. 2 of them are 3.8:1 and the other is 5:1. the 3.8's are way to slow for me. Shimano will not have parts for them, I tried but they did give me a number to this guy in texas that has all kinds of older shimano parts. to change the 2 3.8's over to 5;`1 was $75. 2 pinon gears 2 drive gears 2 drag washers 2 key washers and 2 yokes. I will probably fish these reels for the rest of my life so yes they're worth repairing. I'll try to find the number to the place in tx. all you'll need is a drive gear and a pinion gear depending on the shape of the drag washer. also, shimano spool bearings are top notch. no need for ceramics.- Shimano Core?
I just replaced the gears in my curado 50 e with the 7:1 gears from the core 50 and fell in love all over again! I don't notice a weight difference switching to the aluminum drive gear of the core but I really appreciate the few extra ipt's - The Four Wheel Drive Of Boats?
