Change to a red treble hook on a crankbait or rattletrap??

Featured Replies

Was wondering if anyone changes their hooks on these lures to a red treble hook.  I have heard of some people doing this, but have never tried.

If it is something you do, do you change it on only certain colors of lures, and do you change the back hook or front hook?

Man if you are going to change the hooks for bad hooks just because they are red you aren 't doing yourself any favor.

Other than that, back, both or rear, makes no difference as long as you change for good quality razor sharp hooks.

If you think or feel red hooks are going to give you an edge I 'll be the first one to say: "use them".

I'll go with KVD, who says he always changes out the front hook to red on his cranks. Claims it gives the bass a more forward target to focus on. Whose to know for sure? Now we're talking quality hooks here only of course.

And it's kinda like scent. No one can really say that it made "the" difference, but if it gives you the confidence edge, then by all means, use it.

I tend to prefer the front red on shallow slower cranks where theres plenty of light and possibility for the bass to see the red "blood" like an injured bait.. so far it seems to work well on the main one I used so I have no switched out others to see how well it works on those as well.
