Homemade Coffee Scent?

Featured Replies

So I just got my SK rage craws and they have a sticker that says "Now exclusively with coffee scent" and I've seen SK coffee tubes too.. So does this scent attract fish? And if so... Is there anyway to replicate it? Like can I throw some non scented plastics in a coffee grounds and it'll help? Anyone ever try some homemade coffee scent idea?

I just picked up the first 7" Anaconda too (not fished yet) and I was wondering the same thing!

This is kind of irrelevant, but have you seen the 16" Anaconda baits? That just sounds way to big for any bass to be wanting in my book.. 10" is about the biggest worm i'd ever throw..

The story I was told about the coffee scent goes like this:

The research guys were testing baits when they threw the old coffee grinds into the water. To their surprise, minnows jumped all over the grounds.

So they experimented and did it again. Same results.

They took this new information back to their research lab and started testing the coffee scent on bass. And the bass reacted in a positive manner.

The birth of the coffee scented plastics was born.

The company got KVD to say he used them (who knows?) and plastered his face on the packages.

Do they work? I have no idea. My strike ratio with and without the coffee scent is about the same.

Can you add coffee scent to your plastics? Yes you can.

Just take some fresh grounds, wait until they are cool, place them in your plastic bait's bag and let soak for at least 24-hours.

Let us know how they work.

And by the way, Dr. Keith Jones at Berkley research department suggests taking Nightcrawlers and grinding them up and doing the same as the fresh worm scent is supposed to be the best scent you can use.

How many times do you think a bass sees a night crawler? On ocassion in a stream or impoundment. Rarely in a natural lake and less on off shore structure, yet bass eat them like a regular food source. No reason except they look like something to eat and are easily catchable. If it looks like something to eat a bass will eat it at least some of the time.

It doesnt attract fish, it hides your human scent

Here where i'm at in northern Wisconsin we're covered in ice on the lakes and i'm an avid ice fisherman.. But I do trap large quanities of minnows (shiners, mudds, slippery jacks) so I am kind of curious to see how they react in my own test to coffee grounds. As for seeing how they work being fused into plastics, can someone give me some guide how they think I should go about it? Just take some different styles and types of plastics and put them in a bag with coffee grounds?

X2 Very true..

Well, as long as it does not negatively effect the bite and nobody charging extra for it, I'm for coffee scent. It will probably help for me to wake up and fish in the early morning. :) I love fishing, but waking up is tough part for me. (Wait there was a thread about the weakness...)

I didn't know about 16", must be new addition. Yeah, me too 10" is the biggest now. But if you think about it, those worms look smaller sometimes depends on how they are retrieved and how flexible they are. They can bunch up in the water. However if I use 16", I feel I get more tail nibblers.

Sorry wrong words, In the BPS mag. they labeled it the "Anaconda snake" but here's a link to this crazy 16" worm..

Get some Coffee/Shad scent from Upperhand Scents. Just add a couple of drops to a bag of plastics and you are set. It is a fantastic scent.
