I'm looking at getting a new medium fast rod and I'm looking at the *** *** black or a Phenix recon. I fished a medium heavy recon gen 1 and its a really nice rod but I'm wondering if I could save some money buy buying the ***. I read multiple reviews that say the *** fishes like a more expensive rod. Anyone fish both and prefer one over the other? I can't get my hands on a *** so just looking for some opinions if *** even comes close to the recon.

I felt a recon gen2 at the ISE in sacremento and loved it. The downside was I couldn't buy it since I got a dobyns champion there only a few minutes before seeing the recon, but I will never regret buying a dobyns rod since they're the best In my opinion

I really think you will be happy with either. For comparison the recon is about $60 more but their blank is a 36 ton whereas the *** is 30 ton. Also the recon is a lighter weight rod but the *** is arguably a bit more balanced.

Both have forable reviews on tackletour. I only have the recon so I can't make a fair comparison but I have zero complaints about the recon I have owned for a year.

If you have the extra money to buy the recon I would. The sensitivity of the Recon is very good and definitely better than the ***. To me that is very important and, thus, the rod I would choose.

I have a 7'1" med. spinning *** and a 7'1" mh casting Recon 2, imo u will be happy with either, both are very nice for the money. If u can swing the extra $60 get the Recon, if not u will be very happy with the ***. The Recons run a little lighter then they're rated just so u know, and the *** has a little faster tip then rated. IMO the 2 best bang for ur buck rods out there.

I have 3 omens and 1 MH Recon.  The recon was supposed to be a gen2 but tw screwed up and sent me a gen1. 

 

Honestly they're pretty darn close.  I'd put the 60 towards extra line/bait/tackle and stick with the ***.  Balances nice, just as sensitive, and the reel seat is very comfortable (to me).

I think I'm gonna go for the 6'10 medium ***. I was going to throw throw a chronarch on it but I think I'm going to get a lews tp instead can get one for 150 so saving on the rod and reel will give me some xtra money to spend else where. Thanks.
